The Bowling Green State University gymnastics fell to the Ball State Cardinals 194.050-193.900 on Friday night. The dual meet was held inside Irving Gymnasium.
BGSU scored over 48.200 on all four events en route to their second-highest score of the season. Individually the Falcons won three of four events, had the top three scores on vault, a first and third on bars, won all three medals on beam and had a third-place finish on floor.
Bowling Green began the night on bars, scoring a 48.500. Monica Eaton finished first with a 9.800. Freshman Gina Locigno was third with a 9.775.
In rotation two the Falcons exploded with a 48.725 on vault, led by junior Danielle Wishart, who scored a 9.900 , (video below) the third-highest score in school history. Wishart, freshman Jamilah Ali and sophomore Lacey Swords captured the top three marks on the event. Ali scored a 9.825 and Swords scored a 9.775.
Things looked promising midway through the meet as the Falcons looked to keep the momentum rolling, securing a 48.450 on floor, a solid score for the Orange and Brown. Ball State was a margin better, finishing the same event with a 48.850, the difference in the meet. The top Falcon performers were Megan Harrington and Dana Herr, who finished third (9.750) and fifth (9.726).
BGSU ended the day on the balance beam, finishing the meet with a 48.200. Ali won the event with a 9.800, followed by Megan Valentini and Harrington, who finished in a tie for second with 9.775's.
The Falcons return to action on Sun., Mar 11 with a trip to Kent State. The meet is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m.
