Junior captain wins weekly award for first time in his career
CLEVELAND, Ohio - The Mid-American Conference Office announced on Tuesday (Feb. 19) afternoon that T.J. Losby has been named MAC East Player of the Week for his efforts over the weekend at Western Kentucky University. This marks the first time in his career that the junior captain from Bryan, Ohio has won the award.
Losby led the Falcons to their first season-opening series win since 2007, batting .333 (4-12) on the weekend. Losby also led the team with four RBI and three runs scored in the three-game set. In Friday's 10-inning win, Losby went 2-for-4 with a walk, two RBI, and two runs scored. On Saturday, Losby got the Falcons going offensively with his solo home run to deep left-center field in the second inning. Losby's RBI single in the ninth helped get the Falcons to within one run on Sunday.
From behind the dish, Losby also led the pitching staff to a strong opening-weekend. In Saturday's game, Losby made a game-saving play on an outfield assist from Patrick Lancaster. With the go-ahead run barreling towards home, Losby took the throw from the right fielder, dove back towards home plate, and just beat the runner to home with the tag to preserve the tie. The Falcons would go on to score the eventual game-winning run the following inning.
Losby, who played in all 53 games during 2012, has now appeared in 57 straight games for head coach Danny Schmitz, dating back to the 2011 MAC Tournament.
The Falcons, and Losby, will head to Murray, Ky. for a three-game set with the Thorougbreds this weekend beginning on Friday at 3 p.m. ET/2 p.m. CT.
