BOWLING GREEN, Ohio—The Bowling Green State University volleyball team will host their annual Orange vs. White scrimmage on Saturday, with first serve taking place at 12:00 p.m. inside the Stroh Center. Head Coach Danijela Tomic welcomes back nine players from a team that went 22-11 in 2012, winning the Mid-American Conference Championship and advancing to the second round of the NCAA Tournament. Assistant coach Jessica Hohl will lead the Orange team on Saturday, with first-year assistant Rodnei Santos coaching the White team. Saturday's scrimmage will be free admission.

Coaching Staff
Head Coach Danijela Tomic made a bang in her first season at Bowling Green, leading the Falcons to a 22-11 record and the program's first ever NCAA Tournament win. Tomic enters her second season at BG, and ninth season as a head coach overall, with a career record of 180-72. Tomic will be joined by second-year assistant coach Jessica Hohl, and first-year assistant Rodnei Santos. The staff will be rounded out by first-year volunteer coach Madeline Amon and first-year Director of Volleyball Operations Jordan Cravens.
Â
Returning Players
The Falcons return nine players from last season's NCAA Tournament team, including 5-of-6 starters. Seven seniors return, including all-MAC first team performers Lindsey Butterfield (LS), Paige Penrod (LS), and Danielle Tonyan (RS). Laura Avila, a senior setter, also returns after starting all 33 matches last season, while middle Kaitlyn Skinner returns as a starter. Seniors Ashley Dunn (Libero) and Libby Dachenhaus (DS) also return for the Falcons, in addition to juniors Kelsey Bates and Erica Fullenkamp.
Â
Newcomers
The Falcons will round out the 2013 roster with nine newcomers, including eight freshman and one graduate student. Allison Papenfuss, a four-year member of the women's basketball team at Bowling Green, joins the volleyball program for her fifth year of eligibility as she pursues a master's degree. The eight freshman include three defensive specialist/liberos (Madeline Garda, Delaney Arkeilpane, and Amanda Schiavo), one setter (Anna Starr), one middle (Alyssa Maloney), and three outside hitters (Carlyn Stella, Jelena Sunjic, and Desi Klaer).
Â
MAC Championship Recognition
The 2012 Mid-American Conference champions will be recognized on Friday, August 30, when the Falcons play Marquette inside the Stroh Center. That game will be part of the Hampton Inn Invitational.
Â
Previewing The Orange Team
The Orange team will be coached by assistant Jessica Hohl. Hohl enters her second season as an assistant under Coach Tomic. The Orange team will consist of Paige Penrod, Kaitlyn Skinner, Ashley Dunn, Erica Fullenkamp, Kelsey Bates, Madeline Garda, Jelena Sujic, Amanda Schiavo, and Allison Papenfuss.
Â
A Look At The White Team
First-year assistant coach Rodnei Santos will coach the White team. The White team will be charged by all-MAC performers Danielle Tonyan and Lindsey Butterfield. The team will also include seniors Libby Dachenhaus and Laura Avila. The rest of the roster consists of Anna Starr, Carlyn Stella, Desi Klaer, Delaney Arkeilpane, and Alyssa Maloney.
Â
Defending The MAC Title
The Falcons look to continue building in Tomic's second season. A year after finishing the regular season just one win shy of the MAC title, the Falcons will look to win the regular season in addition to the MAC Tournament this year. The Falcons are also looking to take their run in the NCAA Tournament a step further, as they lost in the second round to Penn State in 2012.
Â
Hampton Inn Invitational
With perhaps the best field in the tournament's history, the Falcons will host the Hampton Inn Invitational to begin the regular season on August 30-31. In addition to Bowling Green, No. 13 ranked BYU, No. 25 ranked Creighton, and Marquette will participate in the tournament held at the Stroh Center. The tournament will kickoff with a matchup of two ranked foes, as BYU and Creighton will play on August 30 at 4:30 p.m. The Falcons will then begin their regular season with a match against Marquette. The next day, BGSU will take on Creighton (10:00 a.m.), BYU will face Marquette (12:30 p.m.), and then the Falcons will host the highest ranked foe to ever play inside the Stroh Center, facing BYU at 7:00 p.m. on August 31. In conjunction with the season-opening football game taking place Thursday night, the BGSU Ticket Office will be offering a special ticket deal to the Hampton Inn Invitational. If BGSU fans present their football ticket at the Hampton Inn Invitational, they will be able to get one free ticket to a session of their choice during the weekend. There are three sessions during the weekend - Friday, Saturday morning, and Saturday night.
