Bowling Green, Ohio – Following two consecutive victories at Michigan State and Toledo, the Bowling Green swimming team will have compete back-to-back this weekend, swimming at Ohio Friday at 5 pm before competing at Marshall Saturday at 2 pm. The Falcons will look to improve on their 3-3 overall record and move to .500 in conference action, entering the weekend at 1-2 against MAC opponents.

ABOUT OHIO
Ohio is out to a 4-2 start to the season, which includes a record of 2-1 in MAC meets (wins over Ball State and Buffalo and a loss to Akron). According to CollegeSwimming.com, Ohio is currently ranked sixth in the MAC (Bowling Green is second). Senior swimmer Laurin Williams is a two-time first team All-MAC performer is one of the top swimmers in the conference, currently ranking second in the league in the 1650 freestyle and the 400 individual medley. Sophomore Addison Ferguson has the fastest 100 backstroke time in the conference this year.

ABOUT MARSHALL
Marshall is 2-6 on the season, which includes a loss to MAC opponent Ohio early in the season. The Thundering Herd are currently ranked sixth in Conference USA, according to CollegeSwimming.com. After the meet against the Falcons, Marshall will have 25 days off until the C-USA Championships.
LAST TIME OUT
With just one race remaining, Bowling Green trailed Toledo by one point last Friday afternoon. But the Falcons' 200 freestyle relay team finished 0.3 seconds faster than the Rockets to give BGSU a thrilling 151-143 victory in the Battle of I-75 rivalry. In all, Bowling Green won eight of the 14 swimming races as Victoria Griffin and Daniela Carrillo were double winners. Lara Klein, Kayla Effinger and Joelle Scheps also won individual races.
INDIVIDUAL RANKINGS
BGSU freshman Victoria Griffin has swam the fastest time in the Mid-American Conference this year in the 100 freestyle at 49.87 seconds. The Falcons are ranked among the top three in the MAC in six different events and have as many as three swimmers with top 10 conference times in the 200 breaststroke. The 200 and 400 freestyle relay teams have the second-fastest time in the MAC this year, while Griffin is third in the 200 freestyle and Daniela Carrillo is third in the 200 breaststroke. UNBEATEN
Freshman Victoria Griffin remains unbeaten in both the 100 and 200 freestyle in dual meets this year, going 6-0 in the 100 and 5-0 in the 200. Griffin also won the 100 freestyle at the TYR Invitational, setting a new school record time of 49.87.

SPEED DEMON
Senior Brittany Szekely has dominated the 50 freestyle this year, going 3-1 in dual meets in the event as well as winning the race at the TYR Invitational. She had a season-best time of 23.31 seconds in the preliminaries of that meet and went 23.32 in the finals to win both heats.

A MEDLEY OF WINS
Senior Joelle Scheps has racked up an impressive number of victories in the 200 individual medley this year. She is 4-0 in dual meets this year and has the three fastest times by a Falcons this season in the event. Her top time of 2:05.31 came in the preliminary rounds of the TYR Invitational.

SCHEPS NAMED SCHOLAR-ATHLETE OF THE WEEK
Senior Joëlle Scheps was named the Mid-American Conference's Scholar-Athlete of the Week on Nov. 13 after winning two individual events and racing as part of a winning relay in the team's dual meet at Oakland. Scheps is an individualized business major with a 4.00 grade point average.

GRIFFIN NAMED MAC SWIMMER OF THE WEEK THRICE
It hasn't taken long for Victoria Griffin to make her mark in the Mid-American Conference. The freshman earned MAC Swimmer of the Week honors for the third time on Jan. 20 after winning two individual events and swimming on a winning relay in the 150-144 victory over Michigan State. She was honored for the first time in her career Nov. 4 after winning three individual events and two relay races in weekend meets against Miami and Xavier. She was once again named MAC Swimmer of the Week on Nov. 25 after setting a new school record in the 100 freestyle and reaching the NCAA "B" cut in the event at the TYR Invitational.

CARRILLO CONTROLS THE BREASTSTROKE
A year ago, Daniela Carrillo competed at the NCAA Championships in both the 100 and 200 breaststroke, setting BGSU school records in both events. Once again, she is in position to represent the University, ranking among the top five in the MAC in both.

FREESTYLE RELAY PUSHING TO NEW HEIGHTS
Bowling Green has won the 400 freestyle relay in all three dual races in which the event was competed in and is 2-1 in dual meets in the 200 freestyle relay. Victoria Griffin, Kayla Effinger, Petra Laudova and Brittany Szekely swam a season-best time of 3:29.92 to win the 400 free relay at Eastern Michigan, while Effinger, Erica Nieminen, Maya Skorupski and Griffin also won at Xavier in a time of 3:33.61. The team of Griffin, Szekely, Hannah Newman and Joëlle Scheps pushed the season-best time to 3:29.69 in a win at Oakland. Griffin, Effinger, Scheps and Szekely finished second at the TYR Invite, swimming a season-best 3:25.33.
