BGSU will face XU on Friday night (Feb. 21), with the match set to begin at 7:00 p.m. at the Eastern Hills Indoor Tennis Club. On Saturday (Feb. 22), the Brown and Orange will meet UC in a 3:00 p.m. start at the Western Tennis & Fitness Club.
The Falcons are coming off a 6-1 win at Cleveland State last Friday night. Senior co-captain Nikki Chiricosta tied a school record in that match, picking up the 89th singles win of her career. The Avon Lake, Ohio, native tied the mark held by her sister, Christine.
Obviously, Nikki Chiricosta's next singles win will set a BGSU career record. She is nearing yet another school mark held by her sister, as Nikki Chiricosta has 176 overall victories, just two shy of matching Christine's total.
Senior co-captain Emily Reuland and freshman Hannah Drayton and Harley Hutchison each posted a pair of wins at CSU last Friday, while Chiricosta and sophomores Katie Brozovich and Drew Fillis won one match apiece.
This season, Chiricosta leads the Falcons with 27 overall wins, while Brozovich has 22 and Reuland 21. Chiricosta paces the team in both singles wins, with 12, and doubles victories. She is 15-5 in doubles play this season, including an 11-3 record when competing with Brozovich.
Fillis has 15 overall wins this year to date, while Hutchison (14) and Drayton (13) each have posted double-digit victory totals as well. Another freshman, Brittany Plaszewski, has six wins in her initial season with the Falcons.
Brozovich and Chiricosta dropped their doubles match at CSU last weekend. For Brozovich, the loss was her first -- in singles or doubles -- since dual-match play began. She is a perfect 5-0 in singles and 4-1 in doubles in that time.
In her young career, Brozovich now has a singles record of 25-2 in dual-match play. She has posted her five wins at the third flight this year after spending time at the fourth (10-1), fifth (2-0) and sixth (8-1) flights last spring.
Both seniors are high atop all three BGSU career wins lists. In addition to Chiricosta's lofty standings on both the singles and overall wins charts, she ranks third in doubles victories, with 87. Maddy Eccleston (2010-13) holds the record with 97 career doubles wins as a Falcon, while Christine Chiricosta is second with 89.
Reuland now has a total of 155 wins at BGSU, with 79 singles victories and 76 doubles wins. She has moved into sole possession of fourth place on the overall wins list, and is now tied for fourth in singles victories. Reuland is fifth in BG history in doubles victories heading into this weekend.

Xavier has a record of 4-2 on the season, and the Musketeers take a four-match winning streak into a Wednesday (Feb. 19) contest vs. Butler. XU lost to Indiana and Miami to begin the dual-match season, but rebounded with wins over Abilene Christian, Eastern Kentucky, St. Joseph's and Temple.
Last year, head coach Eric Toth's team finished with an overall record of 20-6 overall and a 9-0 Atlantic 10 Conference regular-season mark. The Musketeers, like the Falcons, advanced to the championship match of their league tournament in 2013.
BGSU leads Xavier, 14-4, in the all-time series between the teams, and the Falcons have won six-straight matches vs. the Musketeers. The teams have not met in dual-match action in four years, however. In the last meeting, the Falcons picked up a 4-3 win in Cincinnati (Jan. 24, 2010). That match marked the 10th consecutive season in which the teams had met. The Falcons are 8-1 at home, 5-3 on the road and 1-0 in neutral-site contest vs. Xavier, and Dean-coached BGSU teams are 13-4 against the Musketeers.
Cincinnati is 3-6 on the year, and the Bearcats went 2-1 in three matches in as many days last weekend. UC downed Butler and IUPUI on the road by identical 7-0 scores, losing to Ball State by a 6-1 count in the middle match. The team also has a win over Toledo, and losses vs. Kentucky, Indiana, Abilene Christian, Miami and Louisville.
A year ago, the Bearcats of coach Angela Wilson finished the season at 13-11, the program's first winning record in four years.
The Falcons lead Cincinnati, 21-11, in that series, and the BGSU is 14-8 vs. the Bearcats since Dean assumed the helm. BG has won six consecutive series meetings after UC had captured six of the previous seven duals. Last year, the Falcons captured a narrow 4-3 decision at the Perrysburg Tennis Center (Feb. 10, 2013). Two years ago, in the team's last road match vs. the Bearcats, the Brown and Orange headed to the Queen City and picked up a 6-1 decision (Jan. 27, 2012).
Following this weekend's matches, the Falcons will prepare for a trip to Palm Springs, Calif., over spring break. BGSU will face Niagara (March 10), Rhode Island (March 11) and Gonzaga (March 13) on that trip, before beginning the Mid-American Conference schedule with a home match vs. Western Michigan on March 22.
