Cleveland, Ohio – Bowling Green State University redshirt junior Brooke Pleger earned her third MAC Athlete of the Week recognition this year as she was named Co-Field Athlete of the Week after breaking the BGSU school record in the hammer throw and climbing to second in the country.
Pleger threw the hammer 223-feet at the Toledo Invitational Friday, breaking the facility record held by 2004 Olympian Jackie Jescheling. With the toss, she became one of only two student-athletes in the country who have surpassed the 218-feet threshold this year and broke her own school record of 219-9, set last year.
It is the fourth time this year that Pleger has set a new facility record, also posting the best marks ever in meets at Kentucky, Cincinnati and Bowling Green. She remains unbeaten in the hammer throw this year and moved into 10th place all-time among American collegiate hammer throwers and 18th all-time among all collegians.
Pleger was also the MAC Field Athlete of the Week on April 15 and April 22 and has now racked up seven career MAC Athlete of the Week awards – three during the outdoor season a year ago as well as one during the 2014 indoor season.
Bowling Green will compete in the MAC Championships at Ohio University Thursday through Saturday. Pleger will compete in the hammer throw as the top-ranked athlete in the conference Thursday morning at 10:30 am. She is the defending MAC Champion in the event and boasts the top performance in MAC Championship history, tossing the hammer 216-3 a year ago.
