January 12, 2015 | Ice Hockey
The Falcons hold the nation's longest unbeaten streak at nine games, going 6-0-3 during the stretch.
USCHO Poll (Jan. 12)
BOWLING GREEN, Ohio – The Bowling Green State University ice hockey team is ranked No.7 in this week's USCHO NCAA Division I Men's Ice Hockey Poll, announced Monday afternoon by the USCHO.
Bowling Green – who owns the nation's longest unbeaten streak at 6-0-3 – earned a 3-0 shutout victory on Friday night, prior to earning a 4-4 overtime draw after scoring two last minute goals against Alaska on Saturday night at the BGSU Ice Arena.
The Falcons entered the polls on Nov. 10 and had moved up in five straight polls before staying at the No. 13 slot in the Dec. 15 rankings. The Orange and Brown have yet to move down in any of the USCHO polls throughout the season.
WCHA-foe Minnesota State claimed the top spot (1) in the poll --which marked the second time this season a WCHA opponent has earned the top spot in the poll --, while Michigan Tech earned the No. 11 spot to join BGSU in the rankings as WCHA representatives. Northern Michigan also received votes in the latest poll.
The Falcons will trek to Houghton, Michigan on Jan. 16-17 to take on No.11 Michigan Tech. Both hockey teams are above 20 points in the WCHA standings, and will mark the first time the two teams will play each other since Bowling Green swept the Huskies in last year's first round of the WCHA playoffs. The two teams are an even 2-2-1 over their last five meetings. Opening faceoff is scheduled for 7:07 p.m. on Friday and 5:07 p.m. on Saturday evening.
