Falcons Climb Back Into Top 10
March 16, 2015 | Ice Hockey
Bowling Green, Ohio - Currently on a four-game winning streak, the Bowling Green State University hockey team has cracked the top 10 polls for the first time since mid-February. BGSU is ranked No. 9 in the country in both of the two major national polls, the USCHO.com and the USA Today/US Hockey Magazine polls.
BGSU was No. 13 in both polls for two consecutive weeks to start the month of March but a sweep over Northern Michigan in the first round of the WCHA Tournament helped vault the Falcons back into the top 10. Earlier this year, BGSU spent four consecutive weeks in the top 10, peaking at No. 6.
Bowling Green entered the USCHO.com top 20 at No. 19 on Nov. 10 and has not left the poll since. The team entered the USA Today/US Hockey Magazine top 15 poll at No. 15 on Nov. 24 and has not been thrust out of that poll either. In fact, Falcon Hockey increased its vote total for a remarkable 13 consecutive weeks at one point in the USCHO.com poll.
After a swoon saw the Falcons go 1-4-0 (including back-to-back overtime losses) to close out the month of February, BGSU corrected the problems heading into March. The team is now 4-0-0 in the month and has outscored opponents 16-6 during the stretch.
Bowling Green will head to the WCHA Final Five at Xcel Energy Center in St. Paul, Minn. this weekend and will face No. 4-ranked Michigan Tech in the semifinals Friday at 5:07 pm ET. No. 2-ranked Minnesota State plays Ferris State in the other semifinal contest. The winners will play Saturday at 7:07 pm ET. All three games can be seen live on Fox Sports North.
