Carey Named MAC East Pitcher Of The Week
April 20, 2015 | Baseball
CLEVELAND, Ohio - Bowling Green State University freshman pitcher Zac Carey has been named Mid-American Conference East Division Pitcher of the Week for his performance over the weekend. The MAC Office announced the weekly awards on Monday (April 20) morning. Carey, a native of London, Ohio, is a true freshman for the Falcons.
Carey led Bowling Green to a series win, pitching a complete-game shutout in the Falcons' series-clinching, walk-off win on Saturday in the nightcap of a doubleheader. Carey was efficient in the performance, facing just 33 batters and throwing just 103 pitches in his first career complete-game shutout. Carey induced two double plays and worked out of a bases loaded jam in the eighth, the only real threat against him in the game. Carey, a true freshman, is now 3-0 with a 2.41 ERA in MAC play. The Falcons have won four straight decisions with him on the mound.
Bowling Green travels this weekend to Central Michigan for a big MAC series. The first-place Chippewas enter the weekend at 12-3 in MAC play, while the Falcons enter at 7-8. First pitch of that series will be on Friday afternoon at 3:00 p.m. The Orange and Brown will first travel to Youngstown State for a Tuesday showdown against the Penguins. First pitch tomorrow evening is set for 5:30 p.m.
