Bowling Green, Ohio - Each year, the Bowling Green State University hockey program hands out a variety of postseason awards. For the first time this year, those award winners will be announced exclusively on BGSUFalcons.com. Listed below are each of the awards and the winners as they are unveiled over the next few weeks.
Today we announce two award winners. The Howard Brown Coaches Award was presented to senior forward Adam Berkle and the Dr. Tom Wojciechowski Recognition Award was presented to Ryan Sowers.
Berkle completed his senior season with seven goals and 14 assists to tie for fourth on the team with 21 points. He was one of three players to record at least 100 shots on the year and he picked up two power play goals and seven power play points, tied for second-most ont he squad. He leadership and experience was invaluable as he played in 158 career games. The Falcons improved their win total in every season with Berkle on the roster.
Sowers earned the special recognition for his work in reviving the Bleacher Creatures. While overseeing the group, Sowers has contributed greatly to the team's home-ice advantage and to building an increasingly-difficult environment for opposing teams. BGSU Hockey had identical 12-5-2 records in the BG Ice Arena in each of the past two seasons.
