Brandon Hawkins Named WCHA Co-Offensive Player Of The Week

Bowling Green, Ohio - Sophomore forward Brandon Hawkins was named the Co-Offensive Player of the Week today by the Western Collegiate Hockey Association (WCHA). Hawkins recorded five points as the No. 18 BGSU Falcons swept Alaska Anchorage by identical 6-2 scores Thursday and Friday.
While the Falcons posted their highest-scoring offensive weekend in 11 years, Hawkins had three goals and two assists. He also took a team-high 11 shots and finished with a +3 on-ice rating. In Thursday's victory, he assisted on the team's first goal that gave BGSU a 1-0 lead after one. In a five-goal flurry during the second period, Hawkins scored to put BGSU ahead 4-1 and then assisted on the next goal to essentially put the game away. Friday, Hawkins again scored a second-period goal that gave Bowling Green a 4-1 edge. He then closed out the weekend with a goal that finished the scoring just 52 seconds into the third. It capped Hawkins' first multi-goal game of the season and Thursday's three-point night was also a season-best.
It is the first time Hawkins has earned a WCHA Player of the Week award. A year ago, he was recognized by the league as a WCHA All-Rookie member.
