Falcons Dominate Battle of I-75

Final Results
The Falcons dominated this year's battle of I-75 with a final score of 196-95. The team won 13 out of 16 events and diver, Claire Stam, qualified for the NCAA Regional meet in the 1-meter event.
NCAA Qualified
Sophomore, Claire Stam, recorded an NCAA qualifying score of 278.55 in the 1-meter diving event. The Falcon commented: "I felt really good about my dives but I feel like I can definitely improve. I can increase my difficulty a little bit, but I felt really good in the water today".
First year head diving coach and BGSU hall of famer, Phil Koester, also commented on Stam's performance: "Claire did a really nice job today. She went her highest six-dive score of the year and we are very excited for her".
Griffin In, Griffin Wins
Victoria Griffin swam three individual events at the meet and came out victorious in all of them. In the 200 freestyle the Falcon touched the wall at 1:51.12, winning the event by over two seconds. Then came the 50 freestyle, in which she dominated with a time of 23.94. Griffin's final individual appearance was the 100 yard freestyle, in which the senior stopped the clock at 51.53 to win, once again, with a lead of over two seconds. Afterwards, the senior had to perform one more time, only now as a part of the 4x100 freestyle relay. Griffin recorded the fastest relay split of the event at 51.77, helping the Falcons win the final event of the night with a cumulative time of 1:48.00.
Coach's Input
Entering his second year as head coach for the BGSU swimming and diving program, Matt Ense shared his thoughts about the team's performance: "Tonight we came out with a lot of energy. The freshmen got up and wore the Bowling Green cap for the first time at a meet. It was pretty special for me to see that. I also saw some great things when we were in the water. There were some in-season personal best times and some divers broke their personal best scores. On the 1-meter I saw Claire Stam get an NCAA zone qualifying score. I thought this was an impressive way to start off the season."
The Falcons will be back in action at Xavier on Oct. 28 starting at 5 P.M. The next home meet for the Falcons will be on Nov. 11 at 6 P.M. in Cooper Pool as they take on Michigan State. You will find the final results here and on the swimming & diving team's social media accounts listed below. Keep up with your Falcons as they take on the 2016-17 season.
