Miami Invite Timeline
Bowling Green, OH – The BGSU swimming and diving Falcons are hitting their midseason mark this upcoming weekend, as they travel for the Miami Invitational, which is a three day long meet starting on Dec. 1st and ending on Dec. 3rd.
Â
Last time the Falcons saw some action in the pool was on Nov. 11, when they hosted BigTen competitor, Michigan State. The team lost the meet with a 145-155 final score. The Falcons are looking to recover from such loss, as they compete against seven different women teams this weekend. The meet is the Miami RedHawks' 23rd Annual Invitational and the pool will be set up at 25 yards. This invitational is for both men and women, and hosts a variety of conferences as well as teams from Division I and III. The teams that will be competing at the Invitational are Denison, Emory, Indiana, Milwaukee, Missouri-St. Louis, Urbana and Washington University in St. Louis. Every team, besides the orange and brown, will bring both their women and men teams.
Â
The meet will start on Thursday, Dec. 1st with prelims of the 200 freestyle relay, 500 freestyle, 200 IM, 50 freestyle and 400 medley relay. The next day, your Falcons will see some action with the 200 medley relay, 400 IM, 100 butterfly, 200 freestyle, 100 breaststroke, 100 backstroke and 800 freestyle relay. The last day will consist of the 200 backstroke, 100 freestyle, 200 breaststroke, 200 butterfly and 400 freestyle events. Every day, there will be a prelims session starting at 10 a.m., as well as a finals session, which will start at 6 p.m.
Â
The BGSU swimming and diving program head coach, Matt Ense, is in his second year as the leader for the Falcons. Coach Ense commented on the upcoming meet and how the Falcons are preparing for it, he stated: "The women went home for thanksgiving break. I told them to recover, to take time off or swim down if they needed to. Or if they wanted to work hard they could train hard with their club teammates. However, our goal is to be a little bit rested going into the meet, so now we are still doing morning workouts. We are taking it easy in the afternoons and we are laying off the lifting, but our goal is to swim fast this weekend and to put up some personal best times. The goal is to see a few people break school records. I know at midseason we don't think we can do it, but with a little bit of rest I always feel like we can step up to the challenge and see what kind of times we can throw down."
