Day One Final Results
Oxford, OH – The Bowling Green State University Falcons had a great start to their three-day-long midseason meet. The Falcons ended day one in second place with 185.5 points, only behind MAC opponent, the Miami RedHawks.
The meet is the Miami RedHawks' 23rd Annual Invitational and the pool is set up at 25 yards. The invitational is for both men and women and hosts a variety of conferences, as well as teams from Division I and III. The Falcons are competing against Denison, Emory, Indiana, Milwaukee, Missouri-St. Louis, Urbana and Washington University in St. Louis.
The Falcons won the first event of the night, the 200 yard freestyle relay, in a time of 1:32.05. Â Senior, Victoria Griffin, was the opening leg of the relay, recording the fastest split in the event out of all opening legs. After her was Maya Skorupski, who is also a senior. Skorupski kept the relay in first place, splitting a 23.12. Sophomore, Megan Larson was next, splitting a 22.93. The anchor of the relay was freshman, Hannah Paris, who recorded a split of 22.93 for the orange and brown.
After an exciting start of the night for the Falcons came the individual events, in which the Falcons had three people in A finals, four people in B finals, and three people in the C finals. First up was junior, Natalie Criswell, who swam in the B final of the 500 freestyle and finished 14th. The 200 IM event had three Falcons in the B final and one in the C final. Senior, Kristin Filby, finished 12th. Sophomore, Emily Verbrugge finished 14th and freshman, Danica Garbett claimed the 15th spot. Junior, Elodie Schreiber, swam in the C final and claimed the 23rd spot in the event.
A total of three Falcons qualify for the A final of the 50 freestyle. Victoria Griffin was only one one-hundred of a second away from winning the event for the orange and brown. The senior stopped the clock at 23.17 to finish second. Megan Larson tied for seventh place with Emory University sprinter, Marissa Bergh. Both swimmers stopped the clock at exactly 23.72, giving both of them the seventh spot in the event. Maya Skoruspki finished 9th, recording a time of 23.84. Freshman, Hannah Paris, and junior, Maria Galic, swam in the C final of the 50 freestyle and finished 22nd and 25th in the event, respectively. Paris recorded a time of 23.88, while Galic stopped the clock at 23.96.
Then came the last event of the night, the 400 medley relay. The A team for the orange and brown was composed by three seniors and one freshman. Maya Skorupski swam the backstroke leg, splitting a 54.73 for the Falcons. Kristin Filby recorded a 1:02.18 in the breaststroke leg of the relay. Freshman, Rachel Resch, had a 56.68 split in the butterfly leg. Victoria Griffin had her third appearance of the night and had a split of 52.01 for the Falcons, stopping the clock at 3:45.60 to give the orange and brown a fourth place finish in the event.
The Falcons finished the night in second place, only behind MAC opponent and meet host, the Miami RedHawks. The orange and brown has two more days to go. Tomorrow, the Falcons will compete in the 200 medley relay, 400 individual medley, 100 butterfly, 200 freestyle, 100 breaststroke, 100 backstroke, and 800 freestyle relay.
