Miami Invite Day Two Final Results
Oxford, OH – The Bowling Green State University Falcons are stayed strong through day two of their three-day-long midseason meet. One individual event was won by the Falcons, who as a team, ended the day in fourth place with 367.5 points.
The meet is the Miami RedHawks' 23rd Annual Invitational and the pool is set up at 25 yards. The invitational is for both men and women and hosts a variety of conferences, as well as teams from Division I and III. The Falcons are competing against Denison, Emory, Indiana, Milwaukee, Missouri-St. Louis, Urbana and Washington University in St. Louis.
The night started with the 200 medley relay event, in which the Falcons finished in second place by the smallest of margins. The A team of Skorupski, Filby, Galic and Larson stopped the clock at 1:41.71, only one one-hundred of a second away from winning the event.
After such a close finish in the 200 medley relay, the individual events started. The Falcons had four qualifiers in the A finals, six on the B finals, and five in the C finals.
Falcon freshman, Danica Garbett, was the first up in the A final of the 400 IM. Garbett finished fourth in a time of 4:25.19. The B final of the event had three Falcons representing the orange and brown. Sophomore, Emily Verbrugge and senior, Hannah Albion finished 11th and 14th in the event respectively. Verbrugge stopped the clock at 4:27.98, while Albion touched the wall at 4:31.94.
The 100 butterfly event had one Falcon in the A final. Junior, Maria Galic finished in eight place in a time of 56.39. Freshman, Jessica Green represented the orange and brown in the B final, recording a time of 58.04 to finish 18th in the event. Then came the C final, in which freshman, Rachel Resch touched the wall at 56.53 to finish 20th in the event.
Then came the 200 freestyle, in which junior and team co-captain, Amanda Washko was the Falcons' top qualifier, swimming in the B final. Washko stopped the clock at 1:53.27, finishing 17th in the event. The C final had three orange caps in it, worn by junior Natalie Criswell, and sophomores Mary Edwards and Megan Larson. The Falcons finished 24th, 25th and 27th respectively. Criswell recorded a time of 1:53.85, while Edwards stopped the clock at 1:54.72 and Larson touched the wall at 1:55.94.
Senior, Kristin Filby was the only Falcon to qualify for a final in the 100 breaststroke event. Filby swam in the A final, finishing fourth in a time of 1:02.31. Then it was Maya Skorupski's turn, who was the only Falcon in the A final of the 100 backstroke. Skorupski won the event. Stopping the clock at 54.86. The B final saw three Falcons compete to touch the wall first. Junior Elodie Schreiber finished 11th in the event, while freshman, Hannah Paris ended in 12th place and Sarah Fergus, who is also a freshman, touched the wall in 16th place. The trio of Falcons recorded 56.18, 56.64, and 57.20 respectively. The C final saw one Falcon, junior, Maria Galic, who stopped the clock at 57.35 to finish 22nd in the event.
The last event of the night was the 800 freestyle relay, in which the Falcons finished in sixth place. Representing the orange and brown were Natalie Criswell, Mary Edwards, Danica Garbett and Amanda Washko. The Falcons split 1:53.96, 1:55.14, 1:55.55 and 1:53.95 respectively.
The final scores of the night left the Falcons in fourth place, with a 367.5 score. The orange and brown has one more day in their midseason meet, in which they will compete in the 1650 freestlye, 200 backstroke, 100 freestyle, 200 breaststroke, 200 butterfly, and the 400 freestyle relay.
