EDINA, Minn. – After notching the game-winning goal in Saturday's 6-3 win at Alaska, Bowling Green hockey's Mitch McLain was named Western Collegiate Hockey Association Offensive Player of the Week for the third time in the last four weeks.
The junior forward marked a two-point weekend in the Falcons' weekend split when he picked up an assist Friday evening, before having a hand in the game-winning goal for the fourth time this season. Although it was McLain's first game-winner of the year, the score marked his team-leading 11th goal of the season.
A native of Baxter, Minn., McLain's Saturday night goal came just 1:07 into the third period to give Bowling Green a 4-2 lead, ultimately being the first of three goals for the Falcons in the final stanza of play. Bowling Green now holds a record of 5-1-1 this season when McLain scores a goal, and 8-4-1 when he tallies a point.
On the weekend, McLain also topped the conference with a WCHA-best 26 faceoff wins. With a career-high of 22 points this season, McLain also sits second overall in the WCHA.
The conference honor is McLain's third of the season and fifth in his career.
The Bowling Green hockey program will be back in action Friday, Dec. 30 when it hosts RIT at the Huntington Center in Toledo, Ohio.
