Stephen Baylis Again Named WCHA Rookie Of The Week
March 07, 2016 | Ice Hockey
Edina, Minn. – Bowling Green State University freshman Stephen Baylis was named the Western Collegiate Hockey Association's (WCHA) Rookie of the Week for the second consecutive week. Baylis scored six points as the Falcons closed out the regular season with a split at Alabama Huntsville.
In Saturday's 5-0 victory over Alabama Huntsville, Baylis had two goals and two assists, posting a point on four of the team's five goals in the contest. The Ottawa, Ontario native scored on both of his shots on goal, recording the team's third and fifth goals. He assisted on the first and fourth goals of the night. His second score was a power play goal and iced the game with less than seven minutes remaining in regulation. In Friday's 7-5 loss to the Chargers, Baylis had another power play goal and added an assist, finishing +1 on-ice and generating four shots on goal.
With the weekend split, the Falcons end the regular season with a record of 20-12-6. Following a 23-win campaign in 2014-15, BGSU earned back-to-back 20-win seasons for the first time in 20 years. The Falcons, seeded No. 3 for the WCHA Tournament, will host Bemidji State for a best-of-three series beginning Friday at the BGSU Ice Arena at 7:07 pm. The series will continue Saturday and, if necessary, Sunday at 7:07 pm.
