Bowling Green, Ohio - BGSU hockey is coming to Toledo! Bowling Green State University has a radio home on Talk Radio 100.7 all season long, as announced today by Bowling Green State University Athletics and its multimedia rights holder, Learfield's Falcon Sports Properties. Talk Radio 1470AM will officially move to 100.7 on the FM dial on Thursday, Sept. 29.
Cumulus maintains a steady partnership with the Falcons, and WTOD/WQQO-HD2 (Talk Radio 100.7) and WLQR-FM (106.5 The Ticket) now marks the first hockey affiliate for Falcon Sports Network. Falcon hockey opens the season on Saturday, Oct. 1 at noon in a home exhibition game against the Windsor Lancers, and the first game broadcast through Cumulus will be the regular season opener Oct. 7 at Bemidji State. The entire 2016-17 schedule can be found on the official athletics website, BGSUFalcons.com, and fans are encouraged to check back regularly for related details and game times. Games will also continue to be broadcast on WBGU 88.1 FM as they have in the past.
"This is terrific news for our program, and for our fans, to be able to hear our games throughout the season in the Toledo market," said Falcon Hockey Head Coach Chris Bergeron. "Our players work incredibly hard all year, and we know they're pleased to get airtime in Toledo. Evan Pivnick will again call our games and will become an even more recognizable voice in that market. He's always been great, and this is very exciting."
"Extending our university partnership to include Falcon hockey just made sense, and we're pleased to air it for all of the Bowling Green fans and alumni we know are in our listening market," said Cody Welling, director of sales for Cumulus Media, Inc. Toledo/Monroe.
According to Falcon Sports Properties General Manager Chuck Spicer, adding Talk Radio 100.7 and 106.5 The Ticket marks the first step in building Falcon Sports Network for BGSU hockey.
"We will continue to expand and strengthen our hockey radio affiliates so even more of the Falcon faithful can catch these games. We're thrilled to have Cumulus on board with us, and bringing the combination of 100.7 and 106.5 is a terrific start in building our hockey stations," added Spicer.
Under Bergeron, BGSU hockey has seen a renaissance. The program, which boasts a proud tradition that includes the 1984 NCAA National Championship, has won 20 games in back-to-back seasons for the first time in 20 years. Both the preseason coaches poll and the preseason media poll picked Bowling Green as the favorite to win the Western Collegiate Hockey Association championship. The Falcons have been ranked as high as No. 6 in the country in the past two years.
Learfield has long been immersed in the collegiate athletics landscape. In addition to Bowling Green, the company manages the multimedia and sponsorship rights for more than 120 collegiate institutions, conferences and arenas, in addition to supporting athletic departments at all competitive levels as title sponsor of the prestigious Learfield Directors' Cup.
