January 25, 2017 | Baseball
BOWLING GREEN, Ohio – The Bowling Green State University baseball team and head coach Danny Schmitz have announced team captains for the upcoming 2017 season. Senior right-handed pitcher Tony Landi, and redshirt-sophomore catcher Jeff Scott will serve as BGSU's captains this season. Both Landi and Scott are first-time captains for the Orange and Brown. Below are video interviews with each player.
Landi is coming off one of the best seasons for a Falcon relief pitcher in program history. He tied the single-season saves record with eight, and made 29 appearances, which fell one shy of tying the program record. Across a remarkable stretch from late March to early April, he made eight-straight appearances (8.1 IP) and did not allow a single hit. For his career, he's made 60 appearances. Landi is just 10 appearances shy of moving into 10th place all-time. Landi ranks third in program history with 12 saves, and can break the school record with six more in 2017.
Scott played last season at Lincoln Trail Community College in Robinson, Illinois. Scott played in 50 games at LTCC in 2016, and hit .246 with one home run, 10 RBI, 19 runs and two stolen bases. Scott graduated from Clinton Central High School in 2014, and committed to Coastal Carolina, where he spent the 2015 season at. Scott has already made an immediate impact at BGSU, and is expected to be the team's starting catcher when the Falcons open up the 2017 season at Texas A&M on Feb. 17.
