October 16, 2017 | Ice Hockey
BLOOMINGTON, Minn. – After notching three points in his first three games, freshman Cameron Wright was named Rookie of the Week by the Western Collegiate Hockey Association, announced Monday.
A native of Newmarket, Ontario, Wright scored his first collegiate goal in his first career game with the Falcons at Western Michigan, and went on to score in back-to-back games. Now on a three-game point streak, Wright's power play goal against the Broncos was the lone tally for the Falcons in the season opener. In the home opener against Michigan State, Wright's even strength goal put the Falcons up 3-0, helping Bowling Green produce three goals in under a two minute span. On the road against the Big Ten opponent, Wright also went on to post an assist on fellow freshman Brandon Kruse's first career goal to tie the game at 1-1 in the opening period.
After the first week of competition, Wright posts 1.00 point per game through three non-conference matches. On the week, Wright marked two goals and one assist for three points, in addition to nine shots on goal and an even rating on the ice. It is Wright's first WCHA honor of his career.
The Bowling Green hockey program will return home to the Slater Family Ice Arena to begin WCHA competition this Friday, Oct. 20 when it hosts No. 12/14 Minnesota State at 7:37 p.m.
