November 20, 2017 | Ice Hockey
BLOOMINGTON, Minn. – After a three-point performance at No. 5 Minnesota State, Bowling Green hockey's Alec Rauhauser has been named Defensive Player of the Week by the Western Collegiate Hockey Association.
A native of Bismarck, N.D., Rauhauser tied a career-high marker in the Saturday night rebound for the Falcons as he earned a pair of goals and an assist. In his first-career multi-goal game, the sophomore earned a pair of power play goals, including the game-winner in the final minute of the second period. Rauhauser also assisted on freshman Max Johnson's goal that put the Falcons up 3-1 over the nationally-ranked opponent, for his three-point night. Both of Rauhauser's goals came with the 5-on-3 man advantage, helping the Falcons go 3-for-7 on the power play.
On the weekend, Rauhauser tallied two goals and one assist for three points, in addition to marking a team-leading seven shots on goal, as well as three blocked shots. On the season, Rauhauser now leads the WCHA defensemen with 10 points through 13 games played for 0.77 points per game. It is Rauhauser's first WCHA weekly award of his career.
The Bowling Green hockey program now returns home to the Slater Family Ice Arena for a seven-game home stretch, beginning this Friday, Nov. 24 as they host former CCHA-rival Miami at 7:37 p.m.
