BLOOMINGTON, Minn. – After notching his fourth win of the season in a 3-1 victory over Bemidji State, freshman goaltender Eric Dop was awarded his third WCHA Rookie of the Week honor of the season.
A native of Lewis Center, Ohio, Dop highlighted Friday's win over Bemidji State with a 24-save performance where he tallied nine saves in each of the first and third periods and just one goal against in his full 60:00 of action. After sophomore Niko Coffman scored his first career goal with just 1:12 remaining in regulation, the Beavers put out the extra skater. Dop was there to make several big saves and prevent overtime, helping the Falcons move into first place in the WCHA standings.
The victory improved Dop's record to 4-3-1 on the season, and helped his season save percentage improve to .896, while he currently sits 40th overall in the country with a 2.70 goals against average.
Dop has now earned a WCHA Rookie of the Week accolade in October, November, and December this season for his efforts against Alaska, Michigan Tech and Bemidji State, respectively.
The Bowling Green hockey program continues action at the Slater Family Ice Arena this Friday, Dec. 8 and Saturday, Dec. 9 as it hosts Alabama Huntsville for WCHA play. For more information on Bowling Green hockey, follow @BGFalconHockey on Twitter and Instagram.
