Oxford, OH – The first session of the 2017 MAC Championships has come to an end and the BGSU Falcons are now in eight place.
The 2017 Women Swimming and Diving Mid-American Conference Championships is a four-day long meet starting on Feb. 22nd and ending on Feb. 25th. The Miami RedHawks opened their doors to the rest of the Conference for this year's championships and session number one took place tonight. Only two events took place this evening, the 200 medley relay followed by the 800 freestyle relay.
The first race of the championships, the 200 medley relay, had an A team of Falcons touch the wall in fourth place. Senior, Maya Skorupski was the first Falcon to jump in the water for the Falconsin this year's championships as the backstroke leg of the relay. Skorupski had a split of 25.38. As soon as Skorupski touched the wall, another senior, Kristin Filby jumped in the pool as the breaststroke leg of the relay and had a 27.78 split. Junior, Maria Galic was next in the line-up taking the butterfly leg of the relay for the orange and brown, recording a split of 23.81. The task of anchoring the relay was left to sophomore, Megan Larson. As the freestyle leg of the relay, Larson recorded a 22.63 split. Cumulatively, the Falcon's A team relay stopped the clock at 1:39.40, earning them a fourth place finish.
Along with the 800 freestyle relay came bad news for the Falcons. The orange and brown A team relay was composed by three juniors and one sophomore. The first leg of the relay was taken by Maria Galic, who made her second appearance of the night. Following Galic was the 1000 yard freestyle school record holder, Natalie Criswell. Amanda Washko represented the Falcons as leg number three, while Emily Verbruggee took on the task of anchoring the relay. Unfortunately for the Falcons, the relay was DQ from the competition.
Tomorrow will start with a preliminary session at 11AM, which will include the 50 freestyle, 200 IM, 50 freestyle and 1-meter diving. Starting at 7PM will be the finals session, which will consist of al the events from the preliminary session as well as the 200 freestyle relay. Keep up with your Falcons as they continue their journey in the 2017 MAC Championships.
