Oxford, OH – Day two of the 2017 MAC Championships has come to an end with your BGSU Falcons standing on sixth place.
The 2017 MAC Championships are half way through with two more days to go. Day two consisted of one diving and four swimming events. A total of three Falcons competed in the championships finals, while six more represented the orange and brown in the consolation finals.
Junior, Natalie Criswell started off the night for the Falcons swimming in the championship final of the 500 freestyle. Criswell placed sixth with a final time of 4:53.39. Next stop for the Falcons was the consolation final of the 200 individual medley. Almost half of the heat was composed by Falcons. Senior Kristin Filby, junior Elodie Schreiber and sophomore Emily Verbrugge finished, respectively, 2nd, 5th and 8th in the heat, which means they got 10th, 13th and 16th in the event.
The last individual swimming event of the night was the fastest event in the conference, the 50 freestyle. Senior, Victoria Griffin represented the program in the championship final. Griffin touched the wall in 7th place with a time of 23.02. The consolation final had two BGSU underclassmen, sophomore Megan Larson and freshman Hannah Paris. Larson finished 4th in the heat and 12th in the event with a 23.40 final time. Paris recorded a time of 23.48, which was enough to earn her a 7th place finish in the heat and 15th place finish in the event.
The swimming events concluded for the night with the fastest relay in the conference, the 200 freesyle relay. The A team for the Falcons was composed by Megan Larson, Maya Skorupski, Kristin Filby and Hannah Paris. The orange and brown relay ended up in fifth place with a final time of 1:32.77. Larson started off the relay with a 23.42 split, followed by Skorupski, who recorded a 22.99 split. Filby was next in the line-up and finished her part of the race with a 23.36 split. Anchoring the relay was freshman Hannah Paris, who had a split of 23.00.
The first diving event of the championships was also the last event of the night. The championship final of the 1-meter event had one Falcon representing the program. Freshman, Talisa Lemke placed 4th in the event with a 286.95 final score. Sophomore, Claire Stam finished 8th in the consolation final with a 228.50 final score, which placed her 16th in the event.
Half way through the 2017 MAC Championships, the BGSU Falcons stand in sixth place with 118 points so far. Keep up with your Falcons as they continue their journey towards the end of the 2016-17 season.
