Falcons Swimming And Diving Host Saint Francis And BGSU Alumni On Homecoming Weekend
October 11, 2018 | Women's Swimming & Diving
BOWLING GREEN, Ohio -- The Bowling Green State University swimming and diving team will be at Cooper Pool on Friday, Oct. 12 and Saturday Oct. 13 for the Tom Stubbs Relays and the Jean Campbell Alumni Meet.
Â
The Tom Stubbs Relays are held in honor of BGSU Athletics Hall of Fame inductee Tom Stubbs, who passed away in June. Â
Â
Stubbs served in the US Army as a first lieutenant in the Air Force during the Japanese occupation in World War II. Following his service in the armed forces, Stubbs received his bachelor's degree in education from BGSU in 1949.
Â
Stubbs was named head coach of the men's and women's swimming teams in 1965. He coached 30+ All-Americans and produced seven MAC Championships in his 18-year tenure as a head coach.
Â
Saint Francis will be the only rival program competing against the BGSU Falcons in Friday's event. The Falcons have already competed against the Saint Francis Red Flash in the 2018-19 season. In a dual meet held between both programs on Sept. 28, BGSU swimmers placed first in 10 of 13 events, for a final point-tally of 163-78.

COACH PERKINS ON THE TOM STUBBS RELAY
"When it comes to the Tom Stubbs meet, I know that I got here late, so it wasn't planned as well as it could gave planned, but my goal is to make the meet bigger and better in the future. We're going to go about this meet ready to compete to the best of our abilities to honor a man that means a lot to the program, and means a lot to BGSU. Our goal is to make our alumni proud in everything that we do, and we do that by working hard.
Â
With the relay being named after [Tom Stubbs], we hope to come out here and show him we honor what he's done by the way that we compete. We stand on their shoulders, our alumni have built this great foundation for us to stand on. And we are so lucky because of their hard work."
