Max Johnson Named HCA National Player Of The Month

BOWLING GREEN, Ohio. – Max Johnson has been named National Player of the Month for October, the Hockey Commissioners Association (HCA) announced Thursday.
This after Max Johnson finished the month of October tied for the NCAA scoring lead with 13 points. Johnson's six goals on 18 shots currently lead the team. He also had seven assists, tallying at least one point in six of his seven games. Johnson continues to lead an explosive power play unit for the Falcons with 10 man-advantage points. He is currently tied for first in the nation with five power-play goals.
The sophomore from Lakeville, Minnesota has remained among the national scoring leaders since the season began. Johnson's highlights of the month include a four-point contest (2g-2a) in BGSU's 8-2 road win at Mercyhurst (Oct. 6), tallying four assists in a home-and-home series against Robert Morris (Oct. 12, 14) and scoring the game-winning goal in the Falcons' 4-1 home victory over (then No. 19) Western Michigan (Oct. 23).
Johnson then closed out the month by scoring his first career hat trick in Bowling Green's 8-2 victory at No. 7 (then No. 4) Ohio State (Oct. 26). He then picked up an assist in the Falcons' 2-2 tie with the Buckeyes in game two (Oct. 27). All of this he has accomplished with zero penalties on the year thus far.
His five-point week vs. WMU and OSU earned Johnson WCHA Forward of the Week honors (Oct. 23-27) before also being awarded WCHA Forward of the Month (Oct. 31).
The No. 9 ranked Falcons will continue their home stand this weekend when they host Northern Michigan to open WCHA play for the year. Friday's (Nov. 2) game will start at 7:37pm and Saturday's (Nov. 3) game will begin at 7:07pm.
In the preseason polls, Bowling Green and Northern Michigan were picked to finish back-to-back in second and third place. Each team was selected to finish ahead of the other in the media and coaches polls.
