Five Falcons Honored with WCHA Scholar-Athlete Awards

BLOOMINGTON, Minn. – Five members of the Bowling Green hockey team have been recognized as 2017-18 WCHA Scholar-Athlete Award recipients. The Falcons consist of four first-time award recipients, while senior captain Mitch McLain earned his second WCHA Scholar-Athlete honor of his career.
In addition to McLain, sophomores Niko Coffman, Frederic Letourneau, and Casey Linkenheld, as well as junior Matt Meier also received the conference accolade for their academic achievements in the 2017-18 campaign. Coffman and Letourneau boast 4.00 GPAs after three semesters at BGSU while majoring in Finance, while Linkenheld holds a 3.88 marker in the same major.
With a 3.769 GPA in business management, junior Matt Meier earned his first WCHA Scholar-Athlete award, while McLain's 3.515 GPA as a Mild-to-Moderate Intervention Specialist major earned him his second consecutive WCHA Scholar-Athlete accolade.
To earn recognition as a WCHA Scholar-Athlete, conference-member student-athletes must have completed at least one year of residency at their present institution prior to the current academic year and must also have a grade-point average of at least 3.50 on a 4.0 scale for the previous two semesters or three quarters, or may qualify if his/her overall GPA is at least 3.50 for all terms at his or her present institution.
Five recipients of the award is the most in recent years for the Falcons, after earning three in both the 2015-16 and 2016-17 campaigns.
The Bowling Green hockey program concludes the regular season this weekend as it rounds out conference competition at Alabama Huntsville on Feb. 23-24.
