BLOOMINGTON, Minn. – After helping the Bowling Green Hockey program seal the series sweep of Ferris State in the First Round of the WCHA Playoffs, sophomore Ryan Bednard has been named WCHA Goaltender of the Week for the first time in his career.
Between the pipes for the Falcons, Bednard tallied a total of 67 saves with just three goals against in 132:05 of action. On Friday night, the native of Macomb, Mich. tallied a career-high of 34 saves on 35 shots on goal for his first career playoff victory in the 2-1 overtime win. Nearly reaching his career marker again, Bednard followed it up with a 33 save performance on Saturday on 35 shots faced, lifting the Falcons to a 5-2 victory. On the weekend, Bednard averaged 1.36 goals against for a .957 save percentage, and improves to 14-6-4 on the season.
The award marks Bednard's first career WCHA Goaltender of the Week accolade, and second weekly honor of his career after being named WCHA Rookie of the Week once in the 2016-17 campaign. The netminder was also named WCHA Goaltender of the Month for his efforts in November.
The Bowling Green hockey program will be back in action this weekend as it travels to Marquette, Mich. to take on Northern Michigan in the WCHA Semifinals March 9-11.
