Five Falcons Earn All-WCHA Accolades

BLOOMINGTON, Minn. – Five members of the Bowling Green hockey program have been named to All-WCHA teams, as announced by the Western Collegiate Hockey Association on Thursday. In addition to three WCHA All-Rookie Team members, sophomore defenseman Alec Rauhauser has been named to All-WCHA First Team, while senior captain Mitch McLain has been awarded All-WCHA Second Team accolades.
A standout class, Bowling Green's freshmen awarded with All-Rookie Team honors include forwards Brandon Kruse and Max Johnson, in addition to goaltender Eric Dop. On the season, Kruse tallies eight goals and 25 assists for 33 points through 38 games played, the second-most of the Bowling Green squad and of all of WCHA's freshman players. A native of Lakeville, Minn., Johnson has notched 11 goals and 17 assists for 28 points on the year, while his eight power play goals ranks 11th overall among Division I players this season. Between the pipes, goaltender Eric Dop has posted a .901 save percentage and 2.54 goals against average in his 15 appearances and 850:30 of action. With a record of 8-4-2, the rookie netminder ranks 15th in the nation with his .643 winning percentage.
Earning All-WCHA First Team from the blue line, sophomore defenseman Alec Rauhauser has marked a team-leading 37 points by scoring nine goals and 28 assists. The native of Bismarck, N.D. also boasts 0.97 points per game, the fourth-highest in the nation by a defenseman. The award marks Rauhauser's second all-conference honor after being named to WCHA All-Rookie Team accolades in his freshman season.
Leading the Falcons offensively this season is senior captain Mitch McLain, who has marked a team-leading 17 goals and 13 assists for 30 points on the year. Making it his second all-conference honor after being named to All-WCHA First Team honors in his junior campaign, McLain looks to surpass 100 career points this weekend, as he sits at 99 over the course of his four years with the Bowling Green program.
The Falcons continue action this weekend as it travels to Northern Michigan to compete in the best-of-three semifinals of the 2018 WCHA Playoffs. Catch the games on March 9-11 on WCHA.tv.
