BOWLING GREEN, Ohio – The Bowling Green State University baseball team, despite pounding out 15 hits, was defeated by the University of Toledo by a score of 11-6 on Thursday (May 17) afternoon at Scott Park. Toledo scored five runs in the eighth to break a 6-6 tie.
"I give our guys a lot of credit for bouncing back after that first inning," said head coach Danny Schmitz. "We had our opportunities to take a lead late in that game, and we just never broke through. We'll need to come back out tomorrow and even this series."
Toledo scored four in the first to take a 4-1 lead, but the Falcons came all the way back due in large part to a pair of home runs from Randy Righter. A two-run shot in the third brought the Falcons within a single run at 5-4. A solo shot in the fifth then tied the game.
After UT plated a run in the bottom of the fifth, Bowling Green tied the game when Jeff Scott was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded in the sixth.
The three-game series continues tomorrow with a 3:05 p.m. first pitch.
