Hockey's Forward Brandon Kruse Selected in 2018 NHL Draft

DALLAS, Texas – After garnering 33 points in his rookie season with the Bowling Green hockey program, forward Brandon Kruse has been selected in the fifth round and 135th overall in the 2018 NHL Draft by the Vegas Golden Knights.
In playing all 41 games for the Falcons through the 2017-18 campaign, Kruse tallied eight goals and 25 assists to earn a WCHA All-Rookie Team selection. The Saline, Mich. native tied for third among all NCAA freshmen with his 0.61 assists per game, and marked eight power play goals in 28 conference games played. Kruse is among 24 forwards invited by USA Hockey to the 2018 World Junior Summer Showcase that will be held from July 28-Aug. 4 in Kamloops, British Columbia.
Kruse becomes the 72nd NHL Draft pick in Bowling Green hockey program history, as well as third NHL draftee on the current Falcons roster joining defenseman Adam Smith (Nashville, 2016), and goaltender Ryan Bednard (Florida, 2015). Kruse' fifth round pick is also the highest for the Falcons since defenseman Mark Friedman's third round selection (86th overall) by Philadelphia in 2014.
In being selected by the Vegas Golden Knights, Kruse joins the other numerous ties between the Orange and Brown and the expansion team. Other Bowling Green alums with the Golden Knights program include 2018 General Manager of the Year George McPhee (1978-82), center Ryan Carpenter (2011-14), and assistant equipment manager JW Aiken.
The 2018 NHL Draft was held June 22-23 at the American Airlines Center in Dallas.
