- The No. 13 ranked Bowling Green State University hockey team will make their second venture to the upper peninsula this weekend to play a two game series against the Wildcats of Northern Michigan University (Feb. 1-2). Â
- Game one between the Falcons and Wildcats will be on Friday, Feb. 1 at 7:07 PM ET. Game two of the series will be the following night on Saturday, Feb. 2 at 7:07 PM ET. Both games will be played in the Berry Events Center in Marquette, Michigan. Â
- This will be the second regular season series meeting between Bowling Green and Northern Michigan during the 2018-19 season. The Wildcats traveled to Bowling Green in early November. The Falcons spilt the series winning the first game (Nov. 2) by a final score of 3-1. NMU took the second game (Nov. 3) by a final score of 2-0.
>>VERSUS NORTHERN MICHIGAN
- All-time, Bowling Green holds a slight 50-48-8 edge over the Northern Michigan Wildcats.
- Bowling Green and Northern Michigan enter this series right where the WCHA preseason polls voted them to finish in conference play. The Bowling Green Falcons are in second place with 40 points, while Northern Michigan is tied for third place with Michigan Tech at 36 points. Bowling Green and Northern Michigan were voted to finish second and third respectively with the coaches poll voting BGSU second, and the media poll voting NMU second.
- This will be the second regular season series between the Falcons and Wildcats during the 2018-19 campaign, as NMU traveled to Bowling Green in November. The Falcons and Wildcats split the series.
- The Falcons won game one (Nov. 2) of the series 3-1. Taylor Schneider and Sam Craggs each got their second goal of the season putting the Falcons up by two early. NMU would cut the lead in half in the second before the Brandon Kruse would seal it for the Falcons with his third goal of the season. Northern Michigan then defeated Bowling Green in game two (Nov. 3) of the series 2-0. The Falcons led shots on goal in the contest 35 to15.
>>LAST TIME OUT
- Bowling Green enters this series following a two game split of WCHA rival Ferris State at home in Slater Family Ice Arena.
- Bowling Green took game one of their two game series against the Bulldogs on Friday (Jan. 25) night as the Falcons won by a final score of two to zero. The Falcons scored twice on 37 shots on goal.
- Sophomore goaltender Eric Dop recorded his second shutout victory in a row as he backstopped the Falcons to victory. This was the third shutout of his career and his second shutout victory. All three shutouts have been recorded during the 2018-19 season.
- Dop's goaltending would remain strong throughout the contest as fellow sophomores Max Johnson and Cameron Wright would score a pair of power play goals for Bowling Green.
- The following night (Jan. 26) saw BGSU hockey split their two game series with Ferris State losing game two by a final score of three to zero. This despite the Falcons outshooting the Bulldogs 41 to 27.
- Bowling Green generated multiple offensive chances throughout the contest. The Bulldogs would gain a one goal lead and hold it for most of the game. Ferris State would tally one more goal in the third period before scoring an empty net goal.
>>STATISTICAL STANDOUTS
- Holding a conference record of 12-6-2, Bowling Green sits in second place with 40 points in the Western Collegiate Hockey Association standings going into this weekend. This following a split with Ferris State. The Falcons are 17-7-3 overall in the 2018-19 season with eight games left in the regular season schedule. NMU enters this series in third place with 36 points in conference play.
- BGSU continues to bolster one of college hockey's strongest team defenses sitting No. 1 for the third week straight. They enter this series with the lowest goals-against-per-game average in the country (1.78). The Falcons' penalty kill unit also remains among the country's best sitting alone in fourth place with a percentage of .893.
- In between the last two series with Alaska Fairbanks and Ferris State, sophomore forward Max Johnson carried a two game scoring streak. He recorded a goal and an assist in Bowling Green's 2-0 victory against Ferris State (Jan. 25) for his seventh multi-point game of the season. This was multi-point game number 14 in Max Johnson's career. He is second on the roster in scoring with 27 points.
>>DOP DON'T STOP
- Eric Dop's 22 save shutout in Friday's (Jan. 25) win was the third shutout of his season and career. It was also his second shutout victory in a row as Dop made 31 saves to defeat the Alaska Nanooks the previous weekend (Jan. 19). It was the first time Bowling Green has recorded multiple shutouts in a row since the 2016-17 season when the Falcons recorded three straight shutout wins to close the regular season (Feb. 11, 24, 25, 2017). Bowling Green alumnus Chris Nell was in net for BGSU in those three games.
- Eric Dop then carried his shutout streak 19:25 into the first period of Saturday's (Jan. 26) game. Counting his previous three starts, Dop's shutout minutes streak lasted 158:02, which is the second longest shutout minutes streak in program history. The longest is held by Chris Nell at 220:18 minutes. Eric Dop's record is 5-3-1 in nine starts this season.
>>NATIONALLY RANKED
- The Bowling Green Falcons are tied for No. 13 in this week's official USCHO poll (Jan. 28). The Falcons are one of three WCHA teams in the poll, joining No. 6 Minnesota State and No. 20 Lake Superior State.Â
- Bowling Green checks in at No. 14 in the most recent USA Today poll (Jan. 28).
>>PRESEASON POLLS PEG BOWLING GREEN
- Bowling Green was voted to finish second overall in the UAHhockey.com WCHA Media preseason poll, and third in the 2018 Mankato Free Press preseason poll.
- Junior Falcon defenseman Alec Rauhauser was voted First Team All-WCHA by both the media and the coaches. Rauhuaser's contributions to the 2017-18 campaign included leading the squad with 39 points by nine goals and a team-leading 30 assists. The 39 points marked the most by a single Falcon since the 2008-09 season.Â
- Three more Falcons were voted Second Team All-WCHA by the media. Sophomore forward Brandon Kruse, senior defenseman Chris Pohlkamp and junior goaltender Ryan Bednard all made the cut.

- Coming into this season, the Falcons returned 12 of 16 forwards, all seven defensemen, and all three goaltenders from the 2017-18 campaign that saw the Falcons claim a Great Lakes Invitational Championship.
- Bowling Green garnered 159 points in the media preseason poll, and 76 points in the coaches'. The Falcons also had one vote for the top finish on the year in the media preseason poll.

- With an overall record of 23-12-6 in 2017-18, it marked the Falcons' fourth consecutive 20+ win season and fifth straight winning season. Bowling Green had records 21-18-2 in the 2016-17 campaign, 22-14-6 in the 2015-16 campaign, and a 23-11-5 record in the 2014-15 season. Last year was the 22nd season that the Falcons have tallied a 20-plus win season.
- By competing in the WCHA Championship at the end of the 2016-17 season, it marked Bowling Green's first conference championship appearance since 1988.
