Coming off of its fourth consecutive 20-win season, the Bowling Green hockey program has announced its schedule for the 2018-19 campaign. The regular season will include a total of 37 games, including 18 at home in the Slater Family Ice Arena, while season tickets are now on sale.
The Falcons' 18 home games will include three non-conference matchups, one exhibition and 14 Western Collegiate Hockey Association games. For the season, Bowling Green will have a total of 28 WCHA games and seven non-conference matchups.
After opening the season with three non-conference road games, including a single contest at Mercyhurst on Oct. 6 to kick off the regular season, the Falcons will hold its home opener on Sunday, Oct. 14 against non-conference foe Robert Morris. Always a highly anticipated series, the Falcons will host in-state rival Ohio State at the Madhouse on Mercer on Saturday, Oct. 27 in the final non-conference battle of the season.
The Falcons will host Northern Michigan in a standard two-game series Nov. 2-3 in the WCHA opener, prior to its first of two trips to the last frontier when it travels to Anchorage, Alaska to face the Seawolves Nov. 9-10.
The 2018-19 season will include two exhibition games, first coming against the U.S. Under-18 Team on Wednesday, Nov. 21 on the road. The second will be at home as the Falcons host Windsor on Sunday, Dec. 30. Most recently, the Falcons came out victorious in exhibition matchups against both teams in the 2016-17 and 2017-18 seasons.
To close out the first half of the season, the Falcons will host defending WCHA MacNaughton Cup Champions Minnesota State on Dec. 14-15, and will pick up the season on Jan. 3-4 as it hosts Bemidji State at The Slate.
Also on the docket for the second half is Bowling Green's second trip to Alaska when it travels to Fairbanks for a series against the Nanooks Jan. 18-19. It will be the first of two series in which the Falcons will see Alaska in a month's span, before hosting the second series back in Bowling Green Feb. 15-16.
Rounding out the regular season, the Falcons will host Alabama Huntsville on Friday, March 1, before concluding with Senior Night for the team's seven-player senior class on Saturday, March 2.
After a successful first two seasons with the new playoff format, the WCHA Playoffs will again be held entirely at campus sites. The quarterfinal and semifinal series will be best two-of-three from March 8-10 and March 15-17, respectively, while the WCHA Championship will be a single game contest on Saturday, March 23, giving the Falcons the potential to earn up to seven additional home games prior to the NCAA Tournament.
Returning to the Bowling Green squad for the 2018-19 season will be WCHA Defensive Player of the Year Alec Rauhauser as a junior, in addition to three WCHAÂ All-Rookie Team honorees in Eric Dop, Max Johnson and Brandon Kruse. The Falcons and its seven-player senior class will look to host its sixth consecutive first round series in the 2019 WCHAÂ Playoffs, in addition of the hopes to earn a fifth straight 20-win season.
