Askin Sets Two New Single-Season Highs In Loss To Miami

Bowling Green, Ohio - The Bowling Green State University volleyball program fell short to the Miami RedHawks on Thursday (Oct. 10) night by a score of 3-0. The Falcons nearly captured the first set with Miami needing extra points to secure the early lead. Again in the third set, Bowling Green found themselves ahead before the RedHawks surged to capture the victory. The loss moves the Falcons to 3-2 in the MAC while being 9-8 overall on the season.Â

Play-By-Play Notes
- After trailing by as many as seven, the Falcons used two separate runs, one 4-0 and another 5-0, to tie the first set at 17-17 before taking their first lead at 20-19.
- The match remained tied deep into the set, seeing a 24-24 tie before the two teams traded timeouts with Miami then winning 26-24 to take the set advantage after one.
- In the second set, Miami pulled away early, taking a 13-6 lead, sending them to a 2-0 lead after capturing the set.Â
- After opening the third set with a 3-3 tie, Bowling Green went on a 5-0 run to take an 8-3 lead, forcing a Miami timeout.Â
- Miami continued to keep the set close, forcing a tie at 24-24 late before the RedHawks took the third set to clinch the match.Â
Strong Individual PerformancesÂ
- With 8 kills on the night, Jacqueline Askin's season total grows to 174, setting a new career-high for single season kills. She had previously logged 171 in 2017. Askin also had two service aces, bringing her season total to 16, which also is a new career-high, replacing her 15 mark from 2018.
- Jessi Holly returned to action for the Falcons, last appearing against Notre Dame. Holly immediately made a difference tallying two service aces as part of a 5-0 BG run. Holly would conclude with three kills as well as two block assists and one dig in addition to the two aces.Â
- Katelyn Meyer led the Orange and Brown in kills on the night with 11. Meyer also logged a block assist and two digs.
- With three block assists in the match, Katie Kidwell now has 287 in her career. She needs just seven more to move up to ninth on the all-time list for the Falcons.
- Isabelle Marciniak led Bowling Green in assists with 22 over the three sets. Hanna Laube also added five to the team total.Â
- Nikolija Katanic set new match-highs for her career with BGSU in both kills and attack attempts, notching four kills on 17 attempts.Â
- As for digs, Taylor Haberland led the team with 16 against the RedHawks.Â
Up Next
- The Orange and Brown will travel north to take on Western Michigan to conclude the weekend's play. The match will take place on Saturday (Oct. 12) and begin at 5 p.m in Kalamazoo, Mich.
- The Falcons will return to the Stroh Center on Oct. 18 and 19, facing Central Michigan and Eastern Michigan. Friday's match with Central will begin at 6 p.m. and will be Faculty/Staff Appreciation Night. As for Eastern Michigan on Saturday, the match will start at 5 p.m. and will be BGSU's Pink Game.Â
