Gustafson Named MAC Field Performer Of The Year, First Team All-MAC
February 24, 2019 | Women's Track and Field
Bowling Green, Ohio – After winning two Mid-American Conference Championships, redshirt senior Aliyah Gustafson was named the Mid-American Conference's Most Outstanding Field Performer and also earned first team All-MAC honors.
Gustafson won both the weight throw and the shot put at the MAC Indoor Track & Field Championships over the weekend. She came from behind in the weight throw, taking the lead on her fifth of six throws. She set a season-best mark of 67-feet-3.25 (20.50m).
In the shot put, Gustafson took the drama out of it quickly. Her first throw of the day was 56-6 (17.22m), a distance no other competitor was able to threaten. In fact, her worst throw of the day (16.01m) would have won the MAC Championship by 20 cm.
For Gustafson, it is the second time she has been named the MAC Field Performer of the Year. She also earned the award during the 2018 outdoor campaign. She is a three-time first team All-MAC performer and was also named second team All-MAC once. She has won five MAC individual championships (two in outdoor shot put, two in indoor shot put, one in weight throw), the most MAC Championships for a student-athlete in program history.
