February 25, 2019 | Ice Hockey
BLOOMINGTON, Minn. – Alec Rauhauser of the Bowling Green State University hockey team has been voted Defenseman Of The Week by the Western Collegiate Hockey Association. This following a two point weekend in Bowling Green's series win at Bemidji State University.
A junior from Bismark, North Dakota, Alec Rauhauser extended his point streak to five straight games recording one assist per game in BGSU's series against Bemidji State. This ties the second longest point streak of his career (5 games, 2017-18), and is one shy of tying his longest career point streak (6 games, 2017-18).
Rauhauser would tally an assist on Max Johnson's goal to put to put the Falcons up 1-0 over the Beavers just 26 seconds into game one on Friday (Feb. 22) night. He then assisted Johnson again the following night as he scored Bowling Green's second goal in a 2-2 tie. In addition to his seven shots on goal, Rauhauser was +3 on the weekend.
This is Rauhauser's second weekly award of the 2018-19 campaign (Oct. 29) and the fourth of his career.
The Falcons will return to Slater Family Ice Arena this Friday (March 1) for a two game series against the Chargers of Alabama Huntsville. This series will conclude regular season play for Bowling Green. Friday's (March 1) game will feature a George McPhee Bobblehead giveaway prior to the game, and Saturday's (March 2) will be Senior Night. Puck drop is set for 8:07 PM on Friday (March 1) night, and 7:07 PM on Saturday (March 2) night.
Bowling Green has also clinched home ice for the first round of the WCHA playoffs for the sixth season in a row, and will host that series the following weekend (March 8-10).
