March 14, 2019 | Ice Hockey
BLOOMINGTON, Minn. – Three members of the Bowling Green hockey program have been named to All-WCHA teams, as announced by the Western Collegiate Hockey Association on Thursday. Sophomore forward Brandon Kruse and junior defenseman Alec Rauhauser have been named to the All-WCHA Second Team, while junior goaltender Ryan Bednard has been awarded All-WCHA Third Team accolades. Also a total of 19 Falcons have made the WCHA All-Academic Team for the 2018-19 season.
Earning All-WCHA Second Team as a forward, sophomore Brandon Kruse has posted a team-leading 38 points by scoring eight goals and 30 assists through 37 games played. In just two seasons in the Falcon hockey program, Kruse has a total of 71 points. The award marks Kruse's second all-conference honor after being named to WCHA All-Rookie Team accolades in his freshman season.
Junior defenseman Alec Rauhauser earns all-conference accolades for the third season in a row (every year he has been with the program) as he is named to the All-WCHA Second Team. The native of Bismark, N.D. leads all Falcon blueliners with 22 points via three goals and 19 assists over 37 games this season. He also continues to lead the squad in plus minus at plus-20. Most recently, Alec Rauhauser was awarded WCHA Defenseman Of The Week for two consecutive weeks to close regular season play (Feb. 25 and March 4).
Junior goaltender Ryan Bednard earns All-WCHA accolades for the first time in his career between the pipes for the Orange and Brown. Through 28 games played this season, Bednard has posted a record of 18-6-4, a save percentage of .923 and a goals-against-average of 1.81. His GAA has him sitting fifth best nationally. Ryan Bednard has won WCHA Goaltender Of The Week twice this season (Oct. 15, Oct. 29) and has won the monthly honor once (Oct. 31).
Academically, 19 Falcons were WCHA All-Academic honorees, an award in which they are eligible for after a minimum of one year of residency at Bowling Green State University while holding a grade point average of at least 3.00 for the previous two semesters.
Seniors Shane Bednard, Chris Pohlkamp, Adam Smith and John Schilling are three-time recipients of WCHA All-Academic honors in their careers, while 10 Falcons are first time honorees.
The Falcons continue action this weekend as they travel to Northern Michigan to compete in the best-of-three semifinals of the 2019 WCHA Playoffs. Catch the games on March 15-17 via the Falcon Radio Network and FloHockey.
