BGSU-SBU – HOW IT HAPPENED
• The teams played a scoreless first inning, with both the Bonnies and Falcons picking up a one-out infield hit. In the bottom of the inning, junior Taylor Blevins followed up her hit by stealing second, then advancing to third on a fly ball, but she was stranded there.
• A pair of BG errors led to an unearned run for the Bonnies, but the Brown and Orange tied the game in the bottom of the inning. Junior Evelyn Loyola drew a leadoff walk, and a bunt single by freshman Marissa Mullen sent pinch-runner Kathleen Shier to second. A ground ball moved the runners to second and third, respectively, and sophomore Nikki Sorgi's single through the left side plated Shier. BG loaded the bases on a two-out walk to senior Alex Sorgi, but could not break on top.
• The third inning saw the Bonnies score another unearned run. After a leadoff error, a one-out walk was followed by a single that loaded the bases. Madison Stewart's grounder resulted in an out at third base, but Brooke Kane-Walker was able to cross the plate with the go-ahead run.
• Senior Meredith Miller replaced classmate Brooke Parker in the circle to begin the fourth inning, and Miller was lights-out vs. the Bonnies. She worked a perfect fourth frame, striking out the first and last batter, and BG took the lead in the bottom of the inning.
• That Falcon fourth saw Nikki Sorgi lead off with a double, and senior Kali Holcomb singled to put runners at the corners. After Holcomb stole second, both runners scored easily on Alex Sorgi's triple to left-center.
• Pinch-hitter Payton Hamm drew a walk, and promptly stole second. SBU starter Alyssa Yungwirth got the next two BG batters to hit popups, but Loyola walked to load the bases, and Mullen also drew a base on balls to plate Alex Sorgi.
• Sophomore Sarah Gonzalez reached on an error, bringing two teammates home, and Nikki Sorgi followed with her second double of the inning to score both Mullen and Gonzalez to give the Falcons an 8-4 lead.
• Miller worked another perfect inning in the fifth, striking out the final two batters, and BG manufactured a pair of runs to close out the win.
• Alex Sorgi led off the BG fifth with an infield single, and stole second. Then, Hamm drew a walk, before Sorgi stole third to put runners at the corners. • In the bottom of the inning, the Eagles got a run back when Aubrey Bennett's two-out, bases-loaded single scored Alexis Strother.
• Gonzalez led off the fourth with a double, and Holcomb followed with a two-run dinger to left that chased MSU starting pitcher Randi Hamilton.
• In the home fourth, the home side got back-to-back one-out singles, before Miller struck out Cassie Griffin for the second out. But, Strother reached on an error to allow the Bonnies to score an unearned run, before Miller struck out Princess Valencia to retire the side.
