Game 2 Box Score
BOWLING GREEN, Ohio – The Bowling Green State University baseball team dropped both games of a Saturday (April 13) doubleheader to the Miami University RedHawks. Both of the Mid-American Conference ballgames were played at Steller Field.
Â
With the pair of losses, Bowling Green drops to 12-19 on the campaign. The Falcons are 5-7 in conference play. Miami's historic season continues, as the RedHawks improved to 29-6 with the pair of wins. Miami leads the MAC with a 10-2 record.
Â
The first game of the day was dominated by Miami's starting pitcher, Spencer Mraz, who carried a no-hitter into the eighth inning. Neil Lambert broke up the no-hit bit with a leadoff double in the eighth. The RedHawks won the first game of the day by a score of 15-2.
Â
Brad Croy's second home run of the season, a two-run shot in the first inning of the second leg, highlighted a three-run opening frame for the Falcons. However, Miami would go on to score the next six runs of the contest to take a 7-3.
Â
Bowling Green would not go away, scoring two runs in both the sixth and seventh innings to knot the game at 7-7. Anthony Smith's RBI single in the seventh with two outs turned the series finale into a brand-new ballgame. Miami immediately took the lead with two runs in the eighth and one more in the ninth, prior to the Falcons brining the tying run to the plate in the bottom of the ninth. A pop out to short ended BGSU's comeback attempt.
Â
Smith had three hits in the finale, while Jake Wilson and Croy picked up two hits apiece. Chase Antle worked a scoreless frame in relief for the Orange and Brown, giving the Falcons an opportunity in the final frame.

COACH SCHMITZ QUOTE
"I give Miami all the credit in the world. They thoroughly outplayed us in the first game. Our guys battled hard the second game, erasing a four-run deficit. It just seemed that we couldn't get over the top with a key hit to take the lead. We also missed opportunities to keep the momentum going when we needed a shutdown inning. No one is going to feel sorry for us, and we'll need to bounce back quickly with a big week ahead."
