Box Score
MUNCIE, Indiana – The Bowling Green State University baseball team went toe-to-toe with Mid-American Conference-leading Ball State University for the third-straight day, but the Cardinals found a way to secure the sweep. Ball State won a 2-1 pitcher's duel on Sunday (April 28) afternoon at Ball Diamond At First Merchants Ballpark Complex.
Ball State won the three games this weekend by a combined four runs, including consecutive one-run wins to close out the series. Ball State moves to 28-15 (12-4 MAC) with the win, while Bowling Green drops to 13-26 (6-12 MAC) with the loss.
Chase Antle was brilliant on the afternoon, striking out 10 batters over 6.0 innings. Antle, who brought a no-hitter into the fifth inning, allowed just two hits. Over his last four appearances (12.0 innings), the right-hander has allowed four hits and zero runs while striking out 17 batters.
Ball State scored both its runs with two outs in the seventh inning. Neil Lambert doubled to start the ninth and later scored on a sacrifice fly from Riley Minorik, but the tying run was left on first base as BSU's Nick Floyd closed out the game. Kyle Nicolas pitched 7.0 shutout innings to pick up the win for the Cardinals.
Both teams registered just four hits apiece. To go along with Lambert's double, singles were notched by Dylan Dohanos, R.J. Williams and Minorik. Gage Schenk (0.2 IP) and Daniel Buratto (0.1 IP) combined to throw a scoreless eighth inning for Bowling Green.
COACH SCHMITZ
"I thought our team played really hard, and really played three good baseball games this weekend. All three games were up for grabs in the final innings, and Ball State found a way to win all three. You have to give them a lot of credit for that. We've put ourselves in position to win almost all of these games over the last several weeks, and it's frustrating to not get that big out, big hit or even just a bounce. Our guys will go right back to work next week."
