
Volleyball To Conclude Non-Conference Schedule With Queen City Classic

BOWLING GREEN, Ohio - The Bowling Green State University volleyball program will travel to Cincinnati this weekend to take part in the Queen City Classic, playing Xavier and Cincinnati. The Falcons will enter holding a 5-5 record over the course of the young season. This will be the fourth invitational that the Orange and Brown have competed in this year, having participated in the Golden Dome Invitational, going 1-2, hosting the Hampton Inn Bowling Green Invitational, winning all three matches, and playing in the WKU Holiday Inn-University Plaza Invitational most recently, with an 0-3 standing. The Falcons also topped Oakland earlier in the year.Â

Last Time Out
The Falcons competed at the WKU Holiday Inn-University Plaza Invitational, falling to Western Kentucky, Tulane and Ohio State in Bowling Green, Ky. The losses moved the season standing to 5-5 for the Falcons. A year ago, Bowling Green finished non-conference play at 6-7 and then 4-7 in non-conference play during the 2017 season.Â
Scouting The Musketeers
Xavier will enter the weekend against the Falcons holding a 3-5 record, coming off of three straight losses, including one to ranked Louisville. In common opponents, Xavier fell to Wright State by a score of 3-0, a team that Bowling Green beat 3-1. As for the MAC, the Musketeers have faced Akron, losing in five sets, and Eastern Michigan, winning 3-1. BGSU and Xavier last faced in 2017 with Bowling Green as the host. Xavier came away with the win in that matchup, taking the match in three sets.Â
Scouting the Bearcats
A participant in the 2018 NCAA Tournament, Cincinnati currently stands with a 6-3 record heading into this weekend, including having won three of their last four matches. The Bearcats have also opposed two ranked opponents this year, falling to No. 12 Pittsburgh, 3-0 before topping No. 21 Tennessee 3-0. In common opponents, Cincinnati topped Cleveland State, 3-0, and Notre Dame 3-1. BGSU went four sets with each team, beating Cleveland State and falling to Notre Dame. Against MAC teams, the Bearcats took Ball State to five sets, winning 3-2. The meeting between the Falcons and Bearcats will be the first since 2000 at the Indiana University Tournament where Bowling Green won 3-2.Â
