THE HISTORY
Kent State holds a 49-13-1 lead in the all-time series and has won the last four matchups against BGSU. The Falcons recorded a 194.075 in their 2019 matchup at Anderson Arena but fell to the Golden Flashes, who scored a 195.800.Â
BGSU is 2-0 all-time against Ursinius. The Falcons already faced the Bears once this year on Jan. 18, defeating the Bears, 191.025-184.800, in a Rutgers-hosted quad meet in Piscataway, N.J. The first match-up occurred in 2007 with BGSU winning 188.925-178.950.
The Falcons won their lone matchup against Brockport in 1975, the team's first year. They defeated the Golden Eagles, 81.80-78.20, at home.
IT'S BEEN A WHILE
Redshirt freshman Tess Muir made her return to the lineup against Eastern Michigan. Muir competed on vault, beam and floor a year ago until an injury ended her season after just four meets. She took to the balance beam against EMU and posted a personal best score of 9.775. Muir added a spot start on the floor exercise against Central Michigan and scored a 9.675.
Junior Alex Fochler missed the entire 2019 season after performing on uneven bars in 2018. She returned to the lineup this year. After a slow start against Eastern Michigan, she earned medalist honors in back-to-back meets at Rutgers and at Ball State. She recorded scores of 9.850 and 9.800 in those two contests and has finished in the top three in five consecutive meets in which she has competed.
Redshirt sophomore Samantha Marion earned MAC Specialist Of The Week honors following her performance at Eastern Michigan and she has competed on beam and vault in each of the first seven meets. Marion had not competed in her first two years at Bowling Green due to injuries, but is ranked seventh in the MAC on vault this year.
MAKING AN IMPACT
While the season has just passed the halfway mark, a handful of Falcons are already making larger impacts than they previously have.
Senior Jovannah East is averaging a 9.717 on bars, a career-best. She is ahead of last year's average on vault, floor and the all-around. Another senior, Taylor Worthington, is scoring 9.696 on beam, ahead of her average of 9.658 in 2019, and easily a career-best.
Junior Alex Fochler is averaging a 9.638 on floor, competing in the event for the first time in her career. She also has posted a career-best 9.650 average on bars. Junior Elena Lawson is posting career-best averages on vault (9.711), bars (9.543) and floor (9.764), while junior Samantha Marion is in the lineup for the first time in her career, scoring a 9.786 on vault and a 9.482 on beam.
Sophomore Katelyn Goldstrom competed in just one rotation a year ago, but is taking part in three this year. Her average of 9.486 on bars is markedly better than her 9.150 a year ago, while she is also competing on vault and floor, averaging a 9.593 on the latter.
Redshirt freshman Tess Muir is averaging a 9.518 on balance beam, an improvement from 9.156 in 2019 before injury cut her season short.Â
