SETTING THE SCENE
• The Bowling Green State University women's basketball team makes a short trip north this weekend, traveling to the Glass City to renew the "Battle of I-75." Head coach Robyn Fralick and the Falcons will face the University at Toledo on Saturday (Jan. 16), with tipoff set for 2:00 p.m. at Savage Arena.
• For the first time this season, the Falcons have lost back-to-back games. BGSU fell by seven points to Northern Illinois last weekend (78-71; Jan. 9), and the Falcons lost an eight-point decision (82-74) at Buffalo on Wednesday night (Jan. 13).
• Prior to the NIU game, BGSU had won a pair of road contests, vs. Ball State and Western Michigan, by a combined 59 points. By mid-afternoon on Jan. 6, BGSU had topped the conference win total for all of last season.
• After facing the Rockets, BGSU will return home to meet Akron on Wednesday night (Jan. 20); one of just two home games in a seven-game span to begin the month of January.

FIRST THINGS FIRST: FLEMING'S FIRST AMONG FRESHMEN IN THE MAC – AND THE NATION!
• Lexi Fleming is averaging a team-leading 19.6 points per game through the first 11 games of her Falcon career, leading all MAC freshmen in that category. Is that the only category in which Fleming tops all MAC frosh? No. Oh, no. Not even close.
• In the latest NCAA stats (as of Thursday morning, Jan. 14), Fleming leads all MAC freshmen in no fewer than 15 categories, and she ranks second in a 16th. She is among the top five freshmen in the entire nation in 11 of those categories.
HEMPFLING LOOKING TO JOIN A SHORT LIST
• In the history of BGSU women's basketball, the list of players who have amassed both 500 rebounds and 300 assists is a short one. Kate Achter. That's it. That's the list.
• However, after nearly two and one-half seasons in a BG uniform, junior Kadie Hempfling is close to making that list twice as long. Hempfling recently pulled down her 500th rebound as a Falcon, and now has 526 career boards. And, she currently has 295 assists in her BGSU career, putting her just six away from 300.
• Achter (2004-08), a member of the BGSU Athletics Hall of Fame, had a school-record 688 assists and exactly 500 rebounds in her Falcon career.
A QUICK LOOK AT THE ROCKETS
• Toledo is 7-3 on the season, and the Rockets are 3-3 in MAC play entering Saturday afternoon's action. UT snapped a two-game losing streak with a 61-54 home win over Western Michigan on Wednesday evening.
• The Rockets went 4-0 in non-conference action, and UT has posted MAC wins over Northern Illinois, Akron and WMU, while falling to Kent State, Ball State and Ohio.
• Quinesha Lockett and Sophia Wiard have 18.9 and 16.1 points per game, respectively, and both players are averaging at least 5.6 rebounds per outing. Sammi Mikonowicz has 8.5 ppg and a team-leading 7.4 rpg to date.
• The Rockets are 6-1 at home and 1-2 on the road this season to date. In the MAC, UT is 2-1 at Savage Arena and 1-2 in normally hostile (but not this year) venues. Head coach Tricia Cullop welcomed back eight letterwinners, including one starter, from a 2019-20 club that finished 14-17 overall and 7-11 in the MAC. UT won two MAC Tournament games to advance to the semifinals, before the remainder of the tourney was canceled.
THE SERIES
• The Falcons lead Toledo, 42-37, in the all-time series, but the Rockets have won the last eight matchups, including a narrow victory in last year's lone meeting. The Blue and Gold picked up a 79-72 win in overtime in Savage Hall just under a year ago (Jan. 18, 2020).
• UT has won 12 of the last 14 games after BGSU had captured the previous 12 series meetings. BG is 20-13 in home games, 14-21 on the road and 8-3 in neutral-site meet-and-greets with Toledo over the years. Much more BG-UT series information can be found on page 21 of the PDF version of these notes.
