SETTING THE SCENE – ONE MEETS TWO AS FALCONS TRAVEL TO KENT
• The top-two teams in the Mid-American Conference standings will meet this week, as the Bowling Green State University women's basketball team travels to Northeast Ohio. Head coach Robyn Fralick and the Falcons will face Kent State University on Wednesday evening (Feb. 10), with tipoff at 6:00 p.m. at the M.A.C. Center.
• The Golden Flashes currently sit atop the MAC with a 6-1 league record, while BGSU is 10-3 and in second place in the 12-team league. Wednesday's game will be KSU's third contest in a five-day span, after the Flashes had not played for nearly a month.
• The Falcons are coming off of a 69-53 win over Ohio at the Stroh Center on Saturday (Feb. 6). Sophomore Elissa Brett had a career-high 21 points and added 10 rebounds vs. the Bobcats, while helping hold Ohio's CeCe Hooks – who was second in the nation in scoring with 26.6 ppg entering the game – to just 12 points.
• For BGSU, the KSU game begins a three-game stretch against teams with a combined MAC record of 23-10 (.697).

DEFENSE LEADS TO OFFENSE
• For the Falcons, defense has led to offense in 2020-21. BGSU has recorded a total of 210 steals through 18 games this season, an average of 11.67 steals per game. That is more than double the average posted by last year's team (5.32 spg).
• BG has far surpassed the program's total for the entire 2019-20 season (165 steals in 31 games a year ago).
• No player had more than 35 steals during all of last year, but three players – all freshmen – have topped that total in 2020-21. Lexi Fleming now has 51 steals, with Kenzie Lewis and Nyla Hampton at 43 and 39, respectively (and Hampton's played just 13 of BG's 18 games).
• Currently, the Falcons rank third (as in number three) in the nation in total steals and 13th in steals per game, and BG leads the MAC in both categories.
A QUICK LOOK AT THE GOLDEN FLASHES
• Kent State is 7-3 overall, and the Golden Flashes lead the MAC with a 6-1 conference record. KSU has won a pair of close games over the last few days, with a 71-69 win over Miami on Saturday and a 93-87 victory in overtime vs. Toledo Monday afternoon.
• Nila Blackford leads the team in both scoring and rebounding, with 15.4 points and 10.3 rebounds per game. Katie Shumate and Lindsey Thall are averaging 11.5 and 11.0 ppg, respectively.
• The Flashes are a perfect 5-0 at home and 2-3 on the road this season. In the MAC, KSU is 4-0 in Kent and 2-1 away from home as well. Head coach Todd Starkey welcomed back nine letterwinners, including four starters, from a 2019-20 club that finished 19-13 overall and 11-7 in the MAC.
THE SERIES
• The Falcons lead Kent State, 56-37, in the all-time series, but the Golden Flashes have captured the last three meetings. The teams met twice in February of 2020, with KSU pulling away in the second half for a 61-47 win at the M.A.C. Center (Feb. 5, 2020), then escaping the Stroh with a 96-86 victory in double overtime just over three weeks later (Feb. 29, 2020).
• BGSU is 28-13 in home games, 21-22 in road contests and 7-2 in neutral-site games vs. the Golden Flashes over the years. Much more series information can be found on page 24 of the PDF version of these notes.
