March 14, 2021 | Baseball
BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – The Bowling Green State University baseball team was defeated in a back-and-forth epic on Sunday (March 14) at Western Kentucky University, ultimately losing by a score of 17-16. Western Kentucky narrowly claimed all four games this weekend. BGSU lost the opener in extra innings, before dropping a pair of low-scoring tight ballgames on Saturday (March 13). The non-conference series was played at WKU's Nick Denes Field.
Bowling Green heads into conference play next weekend with a deceiving 2-8 record. The Falcons have lost three one-run games, including two extra-inning contests. BGSU has also lost a pair of two-run Saturday games over the course of its non-conference schedule. Bowling Green opens MAC play with a four-game series at Ohio, beginning with a 6 p.m. first pitch on Friday, March 19.

• Despite trailing by a score of 17-12 entering the ninth inning, the Falcons nearly came all the way back. Bowling Green scored four times and had the bases loaded, but a strikeout ended the game.
•Bowling Green has now scored 10-plus runs in three of its 10 games in 2021. In last season's shortened 13-game season, BGSU scored 10-plus runs just once.
COACH HALLOCK QUOTE
"The fight and the desire showed by this group of Falcons is a very positive sign. We showed a level of execution offensively that we strive to produce every game. Everyone who went to the plate produced at some point or another. Unfortunately, we didn't get it done on the mound or with the gloves defensively. That falls directly on me as the pitching coach. We will make the necessary corrections this week. I'm very proud of the way everyone fought today, regardless of their individual performances, because we were still a team trying to win a baseball game together from start to finish."
