SETTING THE SCENE – FALCONS FACE FLASHES AS MARCH BEGINS
• The Bowling Green State University women's basketball team, having clinched the Mid-American Conference regular-season championship, wraps up the pre-tournament schedule with a pair of home games this week. Head coach Robyn Fralick and the Falcons face Kent State University on Wednesday evening (March 3), with tipoff at 7:00 p.m. at the Stroh Center.
• BGSU enters the KSU contest riding a four-game winning streak, including Saturday's (Feb. 27) 79-64 win at Akron. That victory, combined with that day's outcomes across the MAC, allowed the Falcons to clinch the conference title.
• The league regular-season title is the 15th in program history, the highest total among all conference schools. BGSU's last regular-season crown came in 2014, capping a stretch in which the Falcons won the MAC nine times in 10 years.
• The Falcons, after going 10-21 overall and 3-15 in the MAC last season, were picked to finish 11th in the 12-team league in 2020-21, according to the preseason coaches' poll. The win over Akron improved BG's record to 17-4 overall and 13-3 in the MAC.

RING SZN
• The Falcons, as mentioned, have won 15 MAC regular-season championships, the most of any conference school. BGSU captured three-straight league crowns in 1987, '88 and '89 under head coach Fran Voll, and Jaci Clark's teams won back-to-back MAC regular-season titles in 1993 and '94.
• Curt Miller's teams won an unprecedented eight-straight conference regular-season titles, from 2005 through 2012. BG captured seven of those eight titles outfield (the Falcons won the East Division in 2011, but did not have the league's best overall record that season).
• Jennifer Roos guided the Falcons to a MAC regular-season trophy in 2014, and Robyn Fralick becomes the fifth different head coach to lead the program to a conference regular-season crown.

* MAC East Division champion (BGSU had, or will have, the best record in the MAC in each of the other 14 seasons listed)
A QUICK LOOK AT THE GOLDEN FLASHES
• Kent State is 10-7 overall, and the Golden Flashes are 9-5 in MAC play. KSU saw a three-game winning streak come to an end with a last-second loss at Miami on Saturday (Feb. 27).
• Nila Blackford leads the team in both scoring and rebounding, with 16.0 points and 10.7 boards per game. Katie Shumate and Lindsey Thall are averaging 12.1 and 11.2 ppg, respectively, and Thall has hit a team-high 32 three-pointers this season.
• The Flashes are 6-1 at home and 4-6 on the road this season. In the MAC, KSU is 5-1 in Kent and 4-4 away from home. Head coach Todd Starkey welcomed back nine letterwinners, including four starters, from a 2019-20 club that finished 19-13 overall and 11-7 in the MAC.
THE SERIES
• The Falcons lead Kent State, 57-37, in the all-time series, and BGSU captured this season's first meeting. Three weeks ago (Feb. 10, 2021), Angela Perry's putback with two seconds remaining in overtime gave the Falcons an 80-79 win at the M.A.C. Center.
• Each of the last two BGSU-KSU meetings have required at least one overtime, as the Flashes picked up a 96-86, double-OT victory in the teams' last meeting at the Stroh Center (Feb. 29, 2020).
• BGSU is 28-13 in home games, 22-22 in road contests and 7-2 in neutral-site games vs. the Golden Flashes over the years. Much more series information can be found on page 24 of the PDF version of these notes.
