CLEVELAND, Ohio – Gage Schenk, a right-handed pitcher on the Bowling Green State University baseball team, has been named the Mid-American Conference Male Scholar Athlete of the Week. The league office announced the news on Wednesday, April 28.

Schenk, an accounting major with a 4.0 GPA, pitched 8.2 dominant innings on Saturday (April 24) at Western Michigan to lead the Falcons to a critical 3-2 victory. The native of Wapakoneta yielded just two hits and two runs. The second hit and second run that he surrendered came with two outs and two strikes in the ninth, as the Broncos pulled within one with a single that bounced through the left side. One of the most productive hurlers in the conference this season, Schenk is now 3-0 in MAC play, having allowed just three earned runs over 22.2 innings.

The Falcons return to Steller Field at Gary Haas Stadium this weekend to take on the first-place Ball State Cardinals. The four-game series begins with a 3:05 p.m. first pitch on Friday, April 30. All games this weekend will stream for free on YouTube. BGSU takes on rival Toledo at the Mud Hens' Fifth Third Field at 7 p.m. on Friday, May 14.
