Each week, the BGSU Strategic Communications Department breaks down the week ahead in athletics and recaps the week gone by. Listed below are all games over the course of the next seven days with links and information for fans. Following that info are recaps, scores and links from games over the past week.
THE WEEK AHEAD
SOFTBALL (26-26, 18-19 MAC)

The Falcons wrap up the 2021 season with a midweek doubleheader at Western Michigan. First pitch of game one is set for 1:00 p.m. BGSU went 5-1 last week, with Payton Gottshall going 4-1 with a save in the circle and Madi McCoy having a monster week at the plate. McCoy hit .571 with a slugging percentage of 1.333 in the six games. She batted .688 (11-for-16) with a slugging pct. of 1.688 in the Falcons' four-game series at Northern Illinois. McCoy reached base in 10 consecutive plate appearances in DeKalb, and after the Huskies finally got her out (on a line drive to RF), she homered in her final two at-bats in the series. She had a hit in BG's 1-0 win in the series opener in DeKalb, then went 10-for-12 (.833) over the final three games of the series. In the second game of Friday's DH, McCoy set a school record for hits in a game, going 5-for-5, and she had two doubles and two homers among those five hits. McCoy went 2-for-3 with two more doubles and a walk in Saturday's first game, then was 3-for-4 with five RBI in the final game of the series. In that last contest, she homered two more times, for her second multiple-HR game in as many days and her third in the last week and a half. McCoy is the first player in BGSU history ever to have three multiple-homer games in a season, and she has tied the school record with four multi-HR contests in her career.

The Falcons are set to open a four-game Battle of I-75 series on Friday (May 14) at 7 p.m. The series opener is taking place at the Mud Hens' Fifth Third Field in downtown Toledo. Friday's contest is the first in a planned annual game between the Rockets and Falcons played in Downtown Toledo. Toledo will serve as the home team in 2021, with the home team designation alternating between the two universities in subsequent seasons. The final three games of this year's series will be played at Scott Park near UT's main campus. Both teams will play a seven-inning doubleheader on Saturday, May 15, and the series will conclude with a Sunday afternoon contest. All four games in the Battle of I-75 series will be televised locally on BCSN.Â

Following a successful MAC Championship meet, the Bowling Green State University Track & Field team will send a limited number of competitors to the UT Last Chance Meet Saturday. BGSU had its highest point total at a MAC Championship meet in 22 years over the past weekend and the Falcons now turn their attention towards NCAA East Region qualification and possible NCAA National Championship representation. Brianna Richard won the MAC Championship in the triple jump, while the 1600 relay team also won a MAC title.

Prior to Friday's series opener, the University of Toledo, Bowling Green State University, and the Toledo Mud Hens are teaming up with the Toledo-Lucas County Health Department and the Wood County Health Department for a vaccine clinic on Friday, May 14 at Fifth Third Field. The two-hour clinic will begin at 5Â p.m. outside the home plate entrance at Fifth Third Field and is open to anyone 18 years of age or older. Participants will receive the one-dose Johnson & Johnson vaccine. No appointment is necessary.
