Falcons Log Season-Best Attack Percentage For Second Consecutive Match

BOWLING GREEN, Ohio – The Bowling Green State University volleyball team defeated the Kent State Golden Flashes with a 3-0 victory on Friday (Oct. 20) at the Stroh Center. With the match lasting just 75 minutes, the Falcons logged a season-best hitting percentage for the second straight match, finishing with a mark of .470. The Falcons didn't allow the Golden Flashes more than 15 points in any set, including 25-11 finishes in both the second and the third. The win extends BGSU's winning streak to three with another match against Kent State set for Saturday (Oct. 21) at six.
Lauryn Hovey led the attack for the Falcons with 16 kills along with four aces, both team-highs. Mia Tyler finished with an impressive .588 hitting percentage, landing 11 kills, while Kat Mandly added 10. Jaden Walz set the attack with 36 assists and eight digs, just two shy of a double-double. Alex Laboy and Lindsey LaPinta led the defensive effort with 10 digs each while Helen Wilford paved the way at the net with four block assists.Â

How It HappenedÂ
Set 1: Bowling Green 25, Kent State 15
- The Falcons tallied an early 5-0 run in the first set to take a 6-2 advantage before the two teams began trading points.
- Bowling Green was able to maintain their advantage up to the next stoppage, coming from a Kent State timeout with the score at 13-8.
- Soon after the Falcons went on a 7-0 run, split up by the second Kent State timeout of the set, to extend their lead to 21-10.Â
- The two teams then traded points to the end of the set with the Falcons claiming a 25-15 set win.
Set 2: Bowling Green 25, Kent State 11
- The Falcons opened the second set with a 4-0 run to jump out to an early lead. BGSU responded to the first KSU points with a 5-0 run to move their lead to 9-1 in the early going before a Kent State timeout with the score at 11-2.
- Bowling Green continued to add to their lead, stretching it to 18-6 before the next stoppage, coming from a Kent State timeout.
- Kent State made a late 3-0 push to cut into the BGSU lead 20-10, but BGSU tallied a 3-0 run of their own to regain a 23-10 advantage before taking the set 25-11.
Set 3: Bowling Green 25, Kent State 11
- An early 5-0 run for the Falcons pushed BGSU out in front in the early going of the set with the score at 7-2.
- Kent State responded with a 4-0 run to trim the lead back down to 7-6, but Bowling Green responded again, this time with a 6-0 run to take a 13-7 lead.
- The Falcons were able to maintain their lead up to the media break, holding a 15-9 advantage, including a 3-0 run going into the timeout.
- Out of the timeout, BGSU added another three points to the run to make it a 6-0 stretch and an 18-9 score with Kent State taking a timeout.
- Coming out of the Kent State timeout, the Falcons continued the run with another three points to push the run to 9-0 with a 21-9 advantage.
- The Golden Flashes were able to tally to points down the stretch, but BGSU captured a 25-11 set score, closing out the match with a 13-2 run.Â

- After logging a season-best .423 hitting percentage against Miami (OH) on Tuesday (Oct. 20), the Falcons followed it up with an even better outing. Against the Golden Flashes, BGSU finished with a .470 hitting percentage with just five attack errors as a team.
- For the second straight match, the Falcons held their opponent to a hitting percentage below .100, holding Kent State to a mark of .033 after Miami (OH) hit. 081 earlier this week.
- Every Falcon that registered an attack attempt on Friday (Oct. 20) finished with a hitting percentage of at least .333. Helen Wilford was a perfect 1.000 with three kills on three attempts followed by Mia Tyler's 11 kills on 17 attempts with just one error for a .588 mark, a new season-high.
- Kat Mandly joined the list of season-highs with a .360 attack percentage, landing 10 kills on 25 attempts with one error.Â
- Lauryn Hovey filled the stat sheet for the Orange and Brown. Hovey led the team in kills with 16 and aces with four while also logging one of the team's two solo blocks over the course of the night.Â
- With a team-leading 36 assists, Jaden Walz brought her season total to 526, surpassing the 500-assist mark for the season.Â
- After making her collegiate debut on the road Tuesday (Oct. 17), Isabelle Laube made her first appearance on the home court and landed the first ace of her BGSU career.
- The win marks the first 3-0 victory at home for the Falcons this season and the second consecutive after a 3-0 win over Miami (OH) earlier this week.
- With the win, BGSU has now won seven in a row over Kent State as well as 15 of the last 16 meetings.Â
