Austen Swankler Named CCHA Forward of the Month

Sophomore extends scoring streak to 18 games, earns second straight CCHA monthly award
BOWLING GREEN, Ohio – The Central Collegiate Hockey Association has recognized four student-athletes as its Players of the Month for the month of January. Bowling Green's Austen Swankler was named CCHA Forward of the Month after registering two goals and eight assists for 10 points, tying for the conference lead in points despite play just six games. The sophomore scored in each game he played, extending his NCAA-best scoring streak to 18 games. In this span, he has 11 goals and 20 assists for 31 points. Entering February, Swankler leads the conference in assists (22) and points (38) while ranking second in goals (16).
CCHA Forward of the Month: Austen Swankler, Sophomore, Bowling Green
Austen Swankler tied for the CCHA lead with 10 points in January, recording this total in only six games. He had two goals and eight assists, with his assist total also tying for the conference lead. Swankler scored in each game for the Falcons, extending his scoring streak to an NCAA-best 18 games. The sophomore had two multi-point performances, the first being a two-assist game and the second being a four-point (1G-3A) game, setting a career-high. Swankler currently ranks second in the CCHA in goals and leads the league in assists and points. On Jan. 9, he was awarded CCHA Forward of the Week for the second time this season.
The forward has scored in 18 consecutive games, recording 11 goals and 20 assists for 31 points in this stretch. This season, has 16 goals and 22 assists for 38 points, leading the CCHA in assists and points and ranking second in the conference in goals. He is third in the NCAA in points and tied for seventh in goals and assists. In his career, the sophomore has 24 goals and 40 assists for 64 points in 63 games. He is a nominee for the Hobey Baker Memorial Award, fans can vote for him once per day HERE.
This is the second consecutive time Swankler has earned CCHA Forward of the Month. Last season, he was awarded Rookie of the Month twice. Swankler has nine total awards from the league, winning Rookie of the Week three times, Rookie of the Month twice, Forward of the Week twice, and Forward of the Month twice. BGSU has been recognized with a weekly or monthly winner 11 times this season, eclipsing the total of 10 from the 2021-22 season.
